PFC Players of the Week for Week 2: Samoil, Gabriel and Heidebrecht

These are the Players of the Week for Week 2 of the 2012 Prairie Football Conference (PFC) season:

OFFENSE-JORDAN SAMOIL- EDMONTON WILDCATS:

The rookie tailback and product of Bev Fahey has had a red hot start to his PFC career. In Saturday night’s 55-18 victory over the Edmonton Huskies, Samoil rushed for 309 yards and 4 touchdowns as his club racked up a total of 452 yards along the ground. When you add the scores to his 3-touchdown effort in the Wildcats Week 1 road win in Winnipeg, he has scored 7 times on the campaign.

DEFENSE-JERMAINE GABRIEL- CALGARY COLTS:

It’s not every day you see a 52-35 ball game produce a defensive player of the week choice, but Sunday’s Calgary home win against Regina produced this week’s pick. Gabriel recorded a pair of interceptions including a 53-yard return that snuffed out a scoring drive that would’ve kept the Thunder in the hunt.

SPECIAL TEAMS-JONATHAN HEIDEBRECHT-EDMONTON HUSKIES:

Heidebrecht was good on 3 of 4 field goal attempts in Saturday’s loss to the Wildcats, including a 55-yarder. His lone miss from 57 yards out, which would’ve equalled the conference record, bounced off the upright. Heidebrecht also averaged 65 yards a kickoff.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
