The rookie tailback came in for an injured Kienan LaFrance in the first quarter of Sunday’s
semi-final defeat in Saskatoon and provided a spark to what had been a struggling Winnipeg
offense. He would lug the leather 21 times for 237 yards and scored two touchdowns, with the
second major being a 75-yard run that got the Rifles to within 11 points at 36-25. Hovi is a
product of Beaver Brae High School in Kenora, Ontario.

The 4th-year safety had a magnificent game in the Hilltops 59-25 semi-final victory over
Winnipeg as he would rack up 6 tackles, 3 assists, knocked down a pair of passes, had an
interception in addition to 2 special teams assists, which was good for 27 points on the
afternoon. The 27-point day ranks 3rd all-time in defensive points in a single PFC playoff
game which surpasses former Hilltop Thomas Irving who had a 24-point game in 2007 and
was only 4 points back of the all-time leading total of 31 which was set by Regina’s Steve
Wilson in a 2003 playoff game.

Brendon Gryba – Returner – Saskatoon Hilltops

Gryba set the tone for Sunday’s semi-final victory over the Winnipeg Rifles on the opening
kickoff as in addition to his 3 rushing majors, he ran the kick 100 yards for the game’s first
touchdown only 17 seconds into proceedings. The return equaled Calgary Colt Robbie
Morgan’s conference record return that was set in a 2009 semi-final loss to the Edmonton
Wildcats. The return touchdown was his 2nd in as many weeks as he recorded a 98-yard
return against the Edmonton Huskies the previous Sunday.
