Pickering recruit returns north of the border, signs with Mounties (VIDEO)

Pickering offensive lineman joins AUS team’s 2016 class.

Michael Hewlett will be coming back to his native country to begin the next chapter of his gridiron career.

Recently, the 6’1, 285 pound offensive lineman (centre) from Pickering, Ontario opted to sign with Mount Allison Mounties. Hewlett will join the team for the 2016 AUS season.

Overall, there were several factors that influenced his decision to pick the Mounties.

“The school itself is the best undergrad school in the nation, and education is a priority to me and my family,” explained the lineman. “I also chose Mount Allison due to the small community and family feel it has; I have that at St. Stephen’s, and I don’t want to give that up.”

“Also, the football program is very strong, and Coach [Scott] Brady is an amazing coach and I believe he’s going to lead us to a few AUS titles.I’m beyond excited to join the Mountie football program, and help this team get back to the top of the AUS, and maybe even get a national title.”

This past fall, Hewlett completed a stint with Austin, Texas team, St Stephen’s Episcopal Spartans, Moreover, the lineman has previously suited up for Durham West Dolphins of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).
