Provincial standouts opt to stay home for CIS career.

Two Alberta standouts have opted to begin their CIS careers in their home province.

Recently, Logan Trachuk and Cole Christianson both committed to the Alberta Golden Bears.  Both players will join the team for the 2014 CWUAA season.

LOGAN TRACHUK:

The 6’0, 255 pound offensive lineman from Sherwood Park, Alberta decided on the Golden Bears for three key reasons.

“I committed to University of Alberta because it was close to home,” explained Trachuk of his decision.  “There is a lot of talent on the team and I really trust that Coach (Chris) Morris can turn the program around.”

Recently, Trachuk suited up for the Edmonton Wildcats of the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).  Previous to the Wildcats, the offensive lineman played for his high school team, Bev Facey Falcons of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA).

Cole Christianson

COLE CHRISTIANSON:

The 5’9, 165 pound defensive back from Ardrossan, Alberta credits Golden Bears Head Coach Chris Morris for tipping his decision towards to the CWUAA school based on gridiron and academic factors.

“I chose to commit to Alberta because with everything Coach Morris is planning, I believe it will be a very successful program in the next couple years,” commented Christianson.  “Also, it is close to my home, so I won’t have to leave my family and friends.”

“Coach Morris talked to me about his set up for engineering and I really liked it. He found a way to make football and engineering fit as efficiently as possible. The way football and education is combined is a factor.”

Christianson joins the Golden Bears after completing his high school career with Ardrossan Bisons of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA).  This past season, he caught five interceptions and had an average of 11 tackles a game.
