The Slovakia American Football Association is looking for Canadian players to join their senior club teams for the season this spring (April to late June/early July). Slovakia is in central Europe and was formerly part of the nation of Czechoslovakia, one of the communist āIron Curtainā countries of Europe. It is now a safe, democratic country that has an interesting contrast of classic European architecture, communist era buildings, and modern western business. The people are very friendly to visitors.

Football is a relatively young sport in Slovakia. Like all other football nations outside of Canada, they play American rules. Over the last 15 years or so, several Canadian players from the U of S Huskies and the Regina Thunder have gone over to Slovakia to join one of the senior clubs for the season, and have had a great experience. For 2017, the Slovak clubs are hoping to have pairs of Canadian players (an offensive and a defensive player) join their teams. Ideally they are looking for players that just completed their post-secondary (CJFL, U Sports, CEGEP) playing careers, as they would be mature players that are likely still in good playing condition. The host club will provide living expenses for the time spent in Slovakia, and may be able to provide other benefits as well. Besides playing football, there would be opportunities for individuals to make their own plans to travel to some great tourist spots nearby like Prague, Vienna, Budapest, or the beautiful seaside region in Croatia.
