PLAYOFF PREVIEW (ONT – DURHAM): CFC#22 Titans, CFC#37 Saints clash again in final

As almost hurricane caliber gusts of wind gave way to walls of oncoming rain, two undefeated teams battled. The relentless onslaught of icy rain and freezing winds were not enough to dull the red hot emotions of such a highly anticipated contest between two superb football teams. Much as one would suspect this game was not settled in four quarters and overtime was needed to settle the 14-14 game. On their first possession, Holy Trinity was forced to settle for a Rouge, which they got, on the ensuing Saints possession, the Titan defense held firm, when Dwyer could not connect on an attempted third down conversion, the game was over in what seemed like an abrupt end to such an emotionally taxing matchup.

This Saturday the two teams meet again, this time not just for a record, but for a title, the LOSSA championship will be at stake when the two CFC 50 teams meet at the Oshawa Civic field. Holy Trinity is making its third appearance in four years and will be looking to win its first title since 2010. The Saints are looking to repeat as league champs and avenge that one point loss suffered in the pouring rain just two weeks ago.

Not a whole lot has changed for Holy Trinity, they will more than likely look to establish a consistent run game much like they did in the ‘rain bowl’ two weeks ago. On defense the keys to victory seem to be to keep the Dwyer run game contained, with a fantastic running back in Dawson Odei, complimented by gifted scrambler Kyle Barronet, it is a task much easier said than done.

For the Saints, much like the Titans, establishing a ground game is key, this is something they could not consistently do two weeks ago, in LOSSA the victor is generally the team that rushes for more yards, so the ground game will be a foremost priority. On defense success lies in penetrating a very solid Titan offensive line, something they did extremely well early but could not sustain late. If the defensive line can get a push late into the fourth quarter, it will make it extremely hard to run a normal offense.

This game is what players and fans live for. Not only are the two teams bitter rivals but there is a title on the line. Emotions will be high when the two teams take the field Saturday night at seven.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
