Port Colborne recruit prepares for competitive battle at York

Port Colborne kicker/punter joins OUA team’s 2016 class

Enzo Lariccia is one step closer to realizing his dream of playing at the CIS level.

Recently, the 5’9, 175 pound kicker/punter from Port Colborne, Ontario committed to York Lions.  Lariccia will join the OUA team for the 2016 season.

“It’s a great honour to become a Lion; it’s a program that’s definitely going in the right direction in becoming one of the powerhouse teams in the OUA,” commented Lariccia of his decision to commit to the Lions.  “They had a great recruiting year last year brining in some top players in the country and they look like there doing that again this year.”

“With two great recruiting classes in two years, it definitely made them top team to go to.”

While he knows he has to work hard to gain a spot on the roster, he’s ecstatic of the opportunity to battle for it.

“I also have a great opportunity there to compete but I know that it won’t come easy,” elaborated the Ontario kicker/punter.  “I have a lot of work to put in the offseason on and off the field to make sure I’m ready to go and compete right away because they have some great players down there that I’m looking forward to playing alongside.”

This past fall, Lariccia completed his career with Lakeshore Catholic Gators of the Niagara Region High School Athletic Association (NRHSAA).  In 2015, he was a perfect seven for seven on field goal attempts.

Despite being closer to achieving his ultimate goal, it is not lost on Lariccia that several individuals played a role in enabling it to become possible.

“I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t from the support of my family, friends, coaches and teammates from past and present they really made the dream of playing in the CIS a reality for me,” expressed Lariccia.  “I can’t wait to be a part of something special at York.”
