Powerful impression

Edmonton slotback newest recruit to join AUS team’s 2014 class.

One AUS team landed a recent recruit due in large part to Playmaker U.

Recently, Rick LeMoignan decided he would move out east as he committed to Saint Maryā€™s Huskies for the 2014 AUS season.Ā  His introduction to the Halifax, Nova Scotia campus came via the training facility.

ā€œI’ve been training at Playmaker U in Sherwood Park and it has helped me become the player I am and I wouldn’t have heard about Saint Mary’s if it wasn’t for the owner, Kamau Peterson,ā€ explained LeMoignan.

The 5ā€™10, 170 pound slotback from Edmonton, Alberta visited Saint Maryā€™s on an official visit and was impressed by many things.

ā€œI really enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the city and the school when I went on my recruiting trip,ā€ reflected LeMoignan.Ā  ā€œIt seemed like football was such a big part of the city and that’s exactly what I was looking for.ā€

ā€œAll the guys on the team seemed to have a great relationship with each other and the coaching staff.ā€

Among the teams the Alberta offensive standout has suited up for include Edmonton Wildcats in the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL), Austin Oā€™Brien Crusaders of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) and the Millwood Grizzlies. In 2009, he was of the Team North bantam All-Star squad.Ā  Additionally, he was selected as a member of Team North at the Alberta Senior Bowl in 2012.

This past season with the Wildcats, LeMoignan was the recipient of the King of the Cats Award, which is given to the player that best exemplifies best overall strength and speed during testing. Not only had he played at the slotback position, but has also played on Special Teams as a returner.

Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese is thrilled that LeMoignan has committed to the team.

ā€œI am very happy to have Rick join our family,ā€ commented Marchese.Ā  ā€œHe is a great kid and a great football player.ā€
