PREVIEW: Carabins ready for season opener against Laval

Montreal – Β For the first time in six years, the Montreal Carabins will begin their opening season in Quebec City, as team travels there to face the Laval Rouge et Or. After a good camp, the Carabins travel to Laval with confidence on Saturday.

“We love where we are at in all facets of the game at the start of the season,” said Head Coach Danny Maciocia. “Our offense has improved.”

“We have a great depth at quarterback, a position where we alternated between two players from last year. Gabriel Cousineau demonstrated during the camp he was in good shape to lead our attack.”

Cousineau is a veteran, who will begin his fourth season with the team.

“It’s all in the preparation,” said Cousineau. Β “Early in the season, the focus is on us.”

“Like every year, we take one game at a time and I’m glad that we start with this one. It will be a big battle and it will deliver a virtually perfect game. Β It is a place where I love to play, because it’s intense and you feel it for a few days because there is a lot of enthusiasm for this game. ”

The season opening game, played in the evening will be a rematch of last year’s Dunsmore Cup final, which Laval won 14-11. However, Maciocia noted that several things have changed since last November.

“We have a different edition than last year,” said Maciocia. “Some players on our team who will be on the field Saturday did not play in Β last year’s final.”

“So it’s hard to compare the games. We will focus on our training and play at our level.”

The game will also feature the two best defenses in the country from 2013.

“Our defensive line and our defensive backs work together to keep our status as one of the best defenses in the country,” said returning linebacker Byron Archambault. Β “Our group has confidence in their abilities, but there is better depth.”

“The players are physically and mentally ready to jump on the field Saturday.”

The game will begin this Saturday at 7:00PM at Laval University’s TELUS Stadium. The two teams will meet again at CEPSUM during the last week of the regular season on Saturday November 1st.
