PREVIEW (RSEQ 1x): Vert et Or visits Carabins in crucial battle

Montreal Β – Montreal Carabins and Sherbrooke Vert et Or will clash once again in what is sure to be another memorable game. While one win separates these teams in the standings, this game on Saturday afternoon at CEPSUM should be another exciting battle.

Carabins Head Coach Danny Maciocia starts this week with a streak of three consecutive victories. The last time the Carabins had a longer run of success, it was the beginning of the 2012 season with five wins in a row. This time around, the Carabins won each of those games by at least 26 points and have scored a total of 131 points to just 24 points against.

The passing game of the Blues has been particularly effective. Gabriel Cousineau has completed 70.3 percent of his passes in four outings.

“We are successful in passing and I think that helps the team so far,” said veteran receiver Philip Enchill, who has 208 yards on 15 receptions so far in 2014. “We are already in midway through the season and every game is important for home-field advantage in the playoffs.”

“For us there is no tomorrow.”

However, the Carabins are aware that their past games against Sherbrooke have been good challenges. The Vert er Or came away with victories in their last two visits to CEPSUM.

“We’re playing good football lately and we must continue in this direction, said Maciocia. “This week against Sherbrooke, we expect it to be tight and the game is decided in the fourth quarter, as it has often been the case. ”

Last year, the Carabins lost 16-12 against the Vert & Or CEPSUM but earned a 30-24 in Sherbrooke. The Vert et Or also won the 2012 RSEQ semifinal at CEPSUM, 42-24.

“For us it will be a very big game,: said star linebacker Byron Archambault. Β “With the playoff games, a nice rivalry was created between the two teams.”

“We have the physical skills to fend off attacks and we have prepared each week to target their attack.”

Last week, the Vert et Or earned a convincing 48-10 victory at home against the Acadia Axemen. The Vert & Or has a group of receivers, including SΓ©bastien Blanchard who has shined since the beginning of the season. He is among the leaders in receiving in the CIS with 36 catches for 494 yards.

“Their quarterback (Jeremi Roch) is an excellent player, recalled Maciocia. “They have good people and a good offense.”

“Their defense also has several different facets. ”
