Previews and Predictions (Sask HS): CFC#3 & CFC#18 face off in Regina showdown

Each and every week, Sask Tipster brings you the week’s preview and predictions for Saskatchewan high School Football. Here are this week’s previews and predictions for games in Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw leagues:

REGINA INTERCOLLEGIATE FOOTBALL LEAGUE (RIFL):

CFC#3 LeBoldus Golden Suns (4-0) vs. CFC#18Β Campbell Tartans (3-0)

We have to start this week’s preview with the biggest game in the province, if not the country. The almighty CFC#3 LeBoldus Suns will defend their winning streak against their toughest challenge in the province, CFC#16 Campbell Tartans. Both teams are undefeated and both teams are coming off easy wins. Campbell’s defense is very well coached and we expect them to focus on shutting down LeBoldus’ running game – leaving the outcome of this one on CFC 100Β Chan DeCiman’s arm. Campbell has some very capable defensive linemen and the battle up front should be back-and-forth throughout the game. The last time these two teams met, LeBoldus took CFC 100Β defensive back Payton Hall out of the game by keeping the ball far away from him. One part of this game that is not to be forgotten is special teams. LeBoldus has a number of speedsters capable of returning the ball and will be facing the strong leg of Campbell’s kicker, Kris Calcutt. Expect the kicking game to determine the outcome. If the Tartans shut down the running game, this game will be close. If not, expect another dominant win by LeBoldus.

PREDICTION: LeBoldus Golden Suns 29, Campbell Tartans 21

Luther Lions (4-0) vs. Notre Dame Hounds (1-2-1)

Notre Dame is one of the few teams in the province that has earned a shutout victory over an opponent. Their 7-0 victory over the Johnson Wildcats earlier this year showed just how strong their defense can play. That being said, Luther has been the most surprising team in the RIFL ‘AAA’ division this season. They have put up extremely good numbers on offense so far and have improved each and every week. They may be able to score four plus touchdowns versus Notre Dame’s defense. If Luther runs the ball as well as they have in the last few games, they will run away with this one.

PREDITION: Luther Lions 28, Notre Dame Hounds 12

SASKATOON SECONDARY SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTORATE (SSSAD):

P.A. St. Mary’s Blues (2-2) vs. St. Joseph Guardians (2-2)

Can the St. Joseph Guardians rebound after their crushing 40-0 loss to the Holt Cross Crusaders? The answer is yes. The Guardians are much better than they showed last week and their evenly match game against the St. Mary’s Blues is their chance to prove it. Expect a defensive battle throughout this game and for the Crusaders to show they belong in the top rung of the SSSAD.

PREDICTION: P.A. St. Mary’s Blues 10, St. Joseph Guardians 20

Andrew Kehler

MOOSE JAW HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL LEAGUE (MJHSFL):

Estevan Elecs (0-3) vs. Swift Current Colts (2-1)

The Estevan Elecs are coming off their strongest performance of the year, losing a thrilling overtime match-up against the Central Cyclones 29-27. Many will say they were robbed the win as the game ended on a controversial call. The real question is can they bounce back? Their offense is led by QB Andrew Kehler, and contrary to most high school football teams, it’s in the air that they cause the most damage. On the other side, the Swift Current Colts will rely on receiver Marcus Kouri. Kouri is one of the surprising talents in the MJHSFL as his athleticism makes him one of the most dangerous weapons in the league. The easy prediction is that the pass game will be huge in this one, the tougher choice it to pick a winner. This game should be fun to watch!

PREDICTION: Estevan Elecs 20  – Swift Current Colts 29
