Queen’s add Brampton recruit (VIDEO)

Brampton pivot joins OUA team’s 2015 class.

Queen’s Golden Gaels have announced the addition of Kyle Gouveia to their football program.

The 6’0, 180 pound pivot from Brampton, Ontario will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

Recently, Gouveia has played for St. Roch Ravens of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA). This past season, he had 23 touchdowns.

In addition to the Ravens, the quarterback suited up for the Brampton Bulldogs of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

“We are hoping Kyle will be able to work some of the same magic here at Queen’s that he exercised with Team Ontario at the Canada Cup tournament last year in Saskatoon as well as the Brampton Bulldogs,” commented Golden Gaels Head Coach Pat Sheahan.  “He has great pedigree at quarterback; he is a student of the game and is an accurate passer.”

“He is very familiar with our offense after spending last summer at our Elite Passing Camp. I look forward to working with him and seeing him develop. Kyle is a brilliant student at St Roch CHS in Brampton who will study Science here at Queen’s.”

For his part, Gouveia wanted to join a program which oozes academic and gridiron excellence.

“The decision to go to Queen’s for me was impacted heavily by the standard of excellence everyone is held to and just the great tradition I was excited to be a part of,” elaborated Gouveia.  “A large part of the decision for me was the schools impressive academic standing which definitely was something that mattered a lot to me first and foremost.”

“I really get a great vibe from the coaching staff and it was definitely a great experience to work with coach Ryan Sheahan [Golden Gaels Offensive Coordinator] at last summer’s Canada Cup. Also when I went on my visit there, I really just found that it was really a place I could fit in and a place I could see myself spending the next four or five years.”
