Calgary linebacker joins OUA team’s 2016 class.

Queen’s Gaels have announced the addition of Will Bannatyne to their football program.

The 6’0, 195 pound linebacker from Calgary, Alberta will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

Recently, Bannatyne completed his career with Centennial Coyotes of the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA). Additionally, he suited up for the Bulldogs of the Calgary Area Midget Football Association (CAMFA).

“Will is great young linebacker from Centennial High School in Calgary,” commented Gaels Head Coach Pat Sheahan.  “He has great range and a plays a very physical style of defense and he is a great special teams player.”

“He will be a great addition to the Queen’s defense. Will is the nephew of former Queen’s all-star linebacker Dave Bannatyne.”

From the onset of his recruitment process, the Gaels were a leading contender for the defensive standout.  Ultimately, his comfort level with the Kingston, Ontario campus was incomparable to the other schools that were in the running for a future gridiron home.

“When I first started thinking of universities that I wanted to attend, right away I had my eyes on Queens,” recalled Bannatyne.  “I feel as though Queen’s will be the best fit for me both academically and on the field.”

“I’m excited to work with Coach Sheahan as I have no doubt that his years of experience will help me develop both on and off the field. It’s a great academic institution and I feel as though it will create opportunities down the road after my football career is over. I’m excited to be a part of the Gaels.”
