Queen’s sign local recruit

Almonte defensive back joins OUA team’s 2015 class.

Queenā€™s Gaels recently announced the addition of Zackary Kealey to their football program.

The 6ā€™0, 180 pound defensive back from Almonte, Ontario will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

Kealey completed his high school career with Almonte Thunderbolts of the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA).Ā  Additionally, he suited up for one season with the Ottawa Myers Riders of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL). Not only has he played as a defensive back, but has been a running back as well.

ā€œZack Kealey is an outstanding athlete from Almonte District HS in the heart of the Ottawa Valley,ā€ commented Gaels Head Coach Pat Sheahan.Ā  ā€œHe excelled as a running back and defensive back for the Thunderbolts leading them to a league championship and a solid performance in the OFSAA Bowl Series in 2014.ā€

ā€œHe also played his summer football for the highly successful OVFL Myers Riders in Ottawa last year. Zack has great speed and is great around the football. Ā He is also a solid return specialist. He is another great addition to the Queenā€™s secondary in 2015.ā€

For his part, there were several reasons why Kealey chose to stay local.

ā€œQueenā€™s was the perfect fit for me,ā€ expressed Kealey.Ā  ā€œKingston is a really beautiful town.ā€

ā€œIt is approximately one hour and a half away from home so it’s close enough for family and friends to visit. Queenā€™s has a great combination of athletics and academics and they are a very well-known school. When I visited the campus, it just felt like home.ā€
