The Vancouver Island Raiders are off to the 2013 Canadian Bowl after dominating the Jostens Cup National Semi-Final game crushing the Windsor AKO Fratmen 50-3 on Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders offense collected 587 total yards, led by their ground game gathering 365 yards.Ā Michael Ritchott was named the Offensive Player of the Game carrying seven times for a game high 124 yards and scored a touchdown.Ā Ashton Galloway rushed eight times for 64 yards and opened up the scoring with a 21 yard touchdown scamper.Ā Alex Kutra also scored a major on the ground.
The Raiders used two quarterbacks as Jaeden Marwick completed six of 14 for 113 yards and threw two picks.Ā Ontario native Jahamari Bennett finished seven of 13 for 109 yards and threw two touchdown passes.Ā Kutra caught a pair of passes for 62 yards, while Arthur Fabbro hauled in a 33 yard touchdown pass and Dylan Schrot caught a major as well.
Defensively the Raiders showed why they have been simply outstanding on this 10 game winning streak.Ā They would hold the Fratmen to just 120 yards of total offense.Ā Linebacker Dylan Chapdelaine led the change with three solo tackles and an impressive 46 yard pick six.Ā He was named the Defensive Player of the Game.Ā Nigel Henry had a pair of stops and the lone sack while Fabian Ross also intercepted a pass.
The Raiders punch their ticket to the Canadian Bowl held on Saturday November 9 in Saskatchewan.Ā Itāll be their first Canadian Bowl appearance since losing the championship in 2010 in Saskatoon.Ā The Raiders won the national championship in 2006 and were back to back champs in 2008-2009.
The championship draught continues for the Ontario Football Conference, who hasnāt won a National Semi-Final game since 2007 when the St Leonard Cougars beat the Raiders oddly enough.
The OFC champion Windsor AKO Fratmen were frustrated all day by the Raiders collecting just 87 yards on the ground and 51 through the air.
Running back Tarrence Crawford was the best offensive weapon for the Fratmen running 17 times for 76 yards.
Rookie quarterback Austin Lumley completed seven of 18 for 51 yards and threw two interceptions.Ā Kyle Moynahan was the only receiver to catch two passes as he tallied just five yards.Ā Jason Blondeau made one reception for a team high 24 yards.
The only points the Fratmen would score was a 37 yard field goal from Dillon Grondin.Ā He also tallied 10 punts netting 333 yards and three kickoffs, netting 109 yards.Ā He was named the Special Teams Player of the Game.
Defensively the Fratmen did create three turnovers.Ā Linebacker Joe Iatzko had an interception and led the club with five tackles.Ā Jeremiah Hamilton collected four tackles and a pick while Grondin had four stops and recovered a fumble.Ā The OFC Defensive Player of the Year Mason Beekhuis tallied four tackles.
The Fratmen finished the season with an overall record of 8-3 (6-2 regular season and 2-1 in the playoffs).
