Ravens strike ‘right balance between academics & athletics’

Ravens add three Ontario commits to their 2019 class.

FPC offensive lineman Angus O’Mara from La Salle Secondary School knows that his academic and football careers are in good hands with the Carleton Ravens.

Cody Gilbert, an offensive lineman from Central High School, and Alex Ross, an offensive lineman from St. Andrew’s College, will also be joining the Ravens.

FPC Angus O’Mara

A future mechanical engineering student, Angus O’Mara knows that academics will take up a lot of his time. But, then again, so will sport. “I chose Carleton because it struck the right balance between academics and athletics for me,” he said. “They help players plan their schedule, so they don’t miss any football or school.”

O’Mara, who is 6’2, 325lbs, added that the coaching staff “is amazing. The entire staff has made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process.”

The seven-year veteran has been playing football since grade four. He began his career with the Sydenham Jr. Bulldogs (TIMFL) and played with the team until grade six. In grade nine he resumed his career with the La Salle Black Knights (KASSAA). He was also a member of the Kingston Grenadiers (OPFL) in grade 10 and 11. In 2017 he was a member of the sophomore Team East at the Fox 40 Prospect Challenge.

O’Mara was an offensive line MVP in grade nine and 11. He was also the most outstanding lineman on the junior varsity Grenadiers in 2017. The product of Kingston, Ontario, primarily lines up as a guard and centre.

“I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the coaches that have helped me get to this point in my career,” O’Mara said. “I definitely couldn’t have made it to this point without the knowledge I have been provided.”

Cody Gilbert

Cody Gilbert will be heading to the nation’s capital from his hometown of Burlington, Ontario, which is located beside Hamilton. The 6’3, 250lbs tackle and guard played with the Burlington Stampeders (OFC).

Alex Ross

Currently located in Aurora, Ontario, Alex Ross is a member of the St. Andrew’s Saints (CISAA). Standing at 6’3, 255lbs, he played both football and rugby with the Saints. On the line his primary positions are guard and centre.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
