Sam Cameron is a touchdown-scoring machine.

Up until last season, he played his entire career with the Pointe-Levy Consaires of RSEQ Division 1B. There, he won three Bol D’or Championships, garnering MVP honours in each. He also won Offensive MVP for the team in each of those three years, and made the AAA Juvinile Division 1B All-Star Team in each of those years. He scored 87 touchdowns and recorded an 11.3 yards/carry average over his final three years of high school. Cameron then committed to CEGEP Divison 1 squad Levis-Lauzon Faucons, where he only suited up in four games due to injury, but still recorded seven majors and 8.2 yards/carry.

Though he only appeared in four games for the Faucons in 2015, he was still an impact player when healthy.

“Last year my highlight of the season was at the second game I played vs College Vanier,” Cameron recalled. “I ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns. It gave me a boost and I scored three TD versus Vieux-Montreal the next week while I was playing quarterback in a Wildcat formation.”

Cameron has a coach that he says has really helped mould his football career, and as for an influencer on his life, he provided a very interesting answer.

“Listening to storytellers like 2pac and many others help me face the hardest situations because their hip hop art is  related to a lot of real situations and on the attitude to have towards those,” he expressed. “My coach Samuel Gendreau is a big part of the football player I am now. His intelligence and offensive system can develop my full potential.”

Considering he only suited up in four games as a rookie for the Faucons last season, Cameron really has yet to even begin his CEGEP career. CIS recruitment is still a couple of years off for the electric tailback.

That in mind, he has yet to plan any visits to CIS universities, and likely won’t until at least the end of next season.

Cameron also partakes in a very busy training regimen both in and out of season.

“For [the Faucons], we have 5 trainings and 1 or 2 practice per week in the off-season,” he said of his schedule. “In the season we have 5 practices per week and the game on Saturday.”

To improve for next season, he says he plans on “working on my breakaway speed to finish all my runs.”

At this point in time, Cameron says he does not have a career path figured out, and is simply focussed on playing football and letting that take him as far as it will take him, and he will reevaluate after his playing days are over.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
