RB Hyland making an impact on every play

Standing at 5ā€™9 and 200lbs, running back Liam Hyland is an unstoppable force. With 10 years of playing experience playing for the Lethbridge Jr. Rams and LCI Rams, he possesses the ability to make an impressive impact on every single offensive play. In fact, that is his favorite part about his position.

“RBP Run, Pass, Block, the running back is in every part of the offence.ā€

His game play can be seen as been modeled after former Chicago Bears running back, Walter Payton. Liam aspires to duplicate the heart and determination on the field that was demonstrated by Payton during his illustrious career. Another player whom Liam admires is Pittsburg Steelers, Leā€™Veon Andre Bell. Liam says he appreciates ā€œhis patience and how versatile his play is.ā€

With his Senior year stats showing 56 carries, 554 rushing yards averaging 9.89 yards per carry, 4 receptions on 111 receiving yards 27.75 yards per reception, and 5 total touchdownsĀ (4 rushing, 1 receiving), Liam is well on his way to an amazing football season.

Currently, Liam is playing his first year for StFX as an X-Man, but will play football as long as he can. He states, ā€œI’ve adjusted alright, was able to dress once this season, so I know my ability is there, just need to improve. No one ever can say they can’t improve!ā€

His pre-game routine includes eating his favorite meal of spaghetti, laying out his entire uniform before putting it on and listening to “You can’t stop me” by Andy Mineo.

His future goals include completing a degree and then going on to dental school.

Football for this young player is a lifestyle. When he was asked what football means to him he replied, ā€Being a football player means to carry yourself with a type of respect. You’re playing a game in which could end at any moment, any play. So why take it for granted. Much like life, why not respect others, and yourself. As things could change at any moment.ā€

During the offseason, Liam will be mostly continuing to lift and train. He means to do whatever he can to make himself better; better at his job and his purpose on the field which is to beat the man across from him at all times and in all aspects.

Liamā€™s parents have always been an enormous support and key to his success in the sport. They took him to everything he needed in order to get faster, stronger, and better at football. The recruiting process can be daunting, intimidating and also long, he says. Going on to say that, ā€œyou can’t get discouraged with the current results or be critical of your own play. Gotta stay confidentā€

Another person who has played a key role of support, encouragement and cultivating that sense of confidence for Liam has been Mr. Cory Gillespie, his strength trainer.Ā  Liams says ā€œHe kept my head up through everythingā€.

Lastly, Liam says he has an immense amount of self-motivation to continue to be competitive in the game.
