RB/DB Ouellette ready to make an impact

For Davidson Raiders’ two-way athlete Addison Ouellette, football has presented multiple opportunities to experience the world in a short amount of time much like his position assignments on the depth-chart. After playing his rookie season with the Winston Wildcats, Ouellette then moved to Davidson in the eighth grade where he has continued his rise in the high school ranks the past three season as a prominent two way player who prefers to be on the field rather than not.

Although it can be a tiring experience during a long game, Ouellette relishes the chance to make a difference on both sides of the ball with his favourite moment from last season coming when he lit up Hanley for 316 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns.

Obviously that is a very memorable performance, but another one sticks out in Ouellette’s mind that he will never be able to forget. Last season Ouellette earned the honour to represent the South Saskatchewan Selects in a tournament that took place in Dallas, Texas and he made sure to make the most of his time playing south of the border,

“I had a pick six down in Texas while playing for the South Sask Selects. I felt like I gave it my all that game and didn’t hold anything back.”

Ouellette’s skills on the field both offensively and defensively have attracted the attention of some CIS schools as well as couple CJFL programs, most notable being the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon Hilltops and the Regina Thunder. With the season rapidly approaching Ouellette is currently trying to focus on his final season of high school football, but has set aside time in December in order to conduct any visits to try and get a feel for which school or program best fits his needs, which includes dreams of becoming an English or physical education teacher when the time comes to finally hang up his cleats.

In preparation for the big season ahead and the key life decisions that need to be made, Ouellette has focused his time in the summer training every other day doing weights while working on running and body recover on the off days. During the long tedious hours of off-season workouts, Ouellette uses inspiration from every corner of his life whether it be his friends, his family, his coaches or even his favourite ball player Tyrann Mathieu to provide that extra shot of adrenaline he needs to make sure he is the best player on the field when the season begins,

“I’m willing to give it my all for the team putting in the off-season work in order to have in-season success. Everyday in practice I am trying to improve my skill set whether it be my foot speed or play recognition in order to help my team win on game day. Being captain it is also my responsibility to help rookies with their game.”

With a laser like focus heading into his senior year at Davidson, Ouellette may not be sure of what the future exactly holds, but he does understand you can’t fast forward time, so he must put his best foot forward everyday on the field and let the chips fall where they may, whether that includes football or not.
