RECAP: CFC 100 Lyons, Mandalfino steer CFC#18 Crusaders to second OFSAA Bowl victory [stats]

CFC 100 Jordan Lyons scored a touchdown rushed for 154 yards on 19 carries and Dominic Mandalfino tallied two majors to power CFC#18 Assumption Crusaders to a 28-9 victory of CFC#11 Assumption Lions earlier this afternoon at the OFSAA Bowl Festival Series at McMaster’s Ron Joyce Stadium.

This is the Crusaders second OFSAA Bowl victory.  The team’s previous win came in 2004.

The Crusaders opened the scoring in the first quarter as Mandalfino ran into the end zone for an 11 yard touchdown score.

However, the Lions responded as CFC 100 Liam Putt snuck into the end zone for a one yard quarterback sneak to tie the game.

At halftime, the Crusaders enjoyed a 14-7 lead after Adam Van Kooten connected with Noah Griffith for a 61 yard touchdown reception.

In the second half, Mandalfino crept into the end zone for a one yard major.  Lyons sealed the victory for the Crusaders as he added a 10 yard rushing touchdown.

Van Kooten completed six passes in eight attempts and a passing touchdown.  In addition to his two majors, Mandalfino racked up 77 yards on 17 carries and 72 yards on two receptions for the Crusaders.  Justin Lyons led the offence with four tackles.

As for the Lions, Putt completed 13 passes in 22 attempts, rushed for 43 yards on six carries and had a rushing touchdown.  Nolan Putt amassed 70 yards on five receptions in the loss.  On defence, Ben Crocock registered eight tackles.
