On defense, Geoff Hebb caught an interception and Mike Burns had a fumble recovery to lead the Phoenix.

“Our defense got off to a quick start and we had some explosive plays early from our offense gave us a comfortable lead,” commented Phoenix Offensive Coordinator Jon Dyer in his postgame comments.  “Credit goes to Halifax West for battling hard from start to finish.”

“It was a great opportunity for us to find out who on our team can help us down the road. A great learning experience for our young players and those reps will pay off as the season progresses.”

This upcoming week is a crucial one for the Phoenix.  Not only is it the annual Turkey Bowl Game but the team will be facing one of the toughest challenges this season – defending Provincial Tier 1 champions Sir John A MacDonald Flames.

“We’ve got a big game next week against Sir John A and we need to improve in all areas,” added Dyer.  “It’s a very important week of practice.”

The Phoenix and Flames will battle at Saint Mary’s Huskies Stadium this Sunday.  Kickoff is 1:00pm.  Meanwhile, the Warriors will try to get into the win column when the team faces JL Ilsley Judges on Sunday at Mainland Commons.  Game start is 7:00pm.
