RECAP: CFC#7 Cactus hands CFC#8 Wolves first loss of the season, quarterfinals set

CFC#7 College Notre-Dame Cactus has done something that no other team has been able to accomplish during the 2014 RSEQ Juvenile Division 1 season.

It may have taken overtime, but the Cactus handed CFC#8 Cure Antoine-Labelle Wolves their first defeat of the season.Ā  The Cactus nicked the Wolves 37-31.

Francois Rocheleau scored two touchdowns and rushed for 151 yards on 30 carries as well as four PATā€™s to lead the Cactus. Lancelot Rivard and Sebastien Yeargan also tallied majors for the victors.

On defense, Bruno Lagace was a beast as he registered 14.5 tackles.Ā  Gabriel Coutu added 11 tackles. Andriy Nikulich recorded two sacks while Olivier Zerges, Elion Rushiti and Karl Chemali each had one.

As for the Wolves, Samuel Makwanda tallied two majors and rushed for 181 yards on 27 carries.Ā  Samuel Emilius also scored a touchdown and racked up 113 yards on seven receptions. Emilus added four PATā€™s.

Benjamin Pierre

Pivot Pierre Benjamin completed 14 passes in 27 attempts for 239 yards, 106 rushing yards on 13 carries as well as a rushing and passing major.

Christopher Jean registered nine tackles while Marc-Darley Casseus and Axel-Etienne Yanibada each had eight tackles to lead the Wolves defense.

Despite the loss, the Wolves have earned the sole first round bye in the playoffs.Ā  As for the Cactus, they will battle Triolet Harfangs in quarterfinal action Sunday afternoon.

Guillaume Vermette

CFC#6 SEMINAIRE SAINT-FRANCOIS BLIZZARD 54, ACADEMIE SAINT-LOUIS ARSENAL 0:

At Academic Saint Louis, Guillaume Vermette and Guillaume Leblond-Paquin each tallied two majors as the visiting CFC#6 Seminaire Saint-Francois Blizzard earned a 54-0 shutout over hosts Academie Saint Louis Arsenal.

Gloire Muganda, Dominic Binette and Jacob Salvail each scored a touchdown for the Blizzard.

Sean Cote recorded two sacks while Cedric Theriault, Jeremy Metivier and Etienne Chene-Cote each added one.Ā  Additionally, Xavier Thibault and Alexis Fecteau each caught an interception.Ā  Eric Verreault led the way in tackes with 8.5 while Cote had eight.

Louis-Philippe Belanger registered 11.5 tackles in the loss for the Arsenal.

The Blizzard will host College Jean Eudes Eagles in quarterfinal action on Saturday afternoon.

Guillaume Renaud-Dumoulin

CFC#33 SAINT JEAN EUDES CONDORS 50, JEAN ROUSSEAU SPHINX 7:

At Saint-Jean Eudes, Alexandre Beliveau scored a touchdown and rushed for 121 yards on 18 carries as hosts CFC#33 Condors cruised to a 50-7 victory over Jean Rousseau Sphinx.

Frederic Lepine, Mathieu Hudon, Louis Tardif, Louis Charles Gauthier and Bastien Pilote each tallied a major for the Condors.

Pivot Victor Loungnarath completed 17 passes in 22 attempts for 214 yards and four passing touchdowns.

Philippe Brodeur caught an interception while Samuel Fortin caught a sack on the Condors offense.Ā  Scott Tremblay amassed six tackles.

As for the Sphinx, Paul Antoine Ouellette tallied a major and racked up 95 yards on six receptions.Ā  Guillaume Renaud-Dumoulin completed 17 passes in 37 attempts for 189 yards and a passing touchdown.

On defense, Shayen Boisvert caught an interception while Jonathan Desbois, Markenley Philippe and Germain Renaud-Dumoulin each chipped in with seven tackles in the loss.

The Condors will battle CFC#46 Academie Les Estacades on Saturday night in the quarterfinals.

Uriel Kalenga

CFC#46 ACADEMIE LES ESTACADES 35, TRIOLET HARFANGS 0:

At Academie Les Estacades, Alexis Daigneault scored a touchdown and rushed for 103 yards on 15 carries as hosts CFC#46 Les Estacades earned a 35-0 shutout win over Triolet Harfangs.

Melvin Piche and Blais Francis each tallied a major for the victors. Trudel Nicolas completed 10 passes in 16 attempts for 165 yards and a passing touchdown.

Uriel-Emmanuel Kalenga and Raphael Grand-Maison each registered eight tackles to lead the Estacades defense.Ā  Simon Torres caught an interception.

Les Estacades move on the quarterfinals where they will meet CFC#33 Saint Jean Eudes Condors on Saturday night.Ā  The Harfangs face a stiff challenge in the round of eight as the team will battle CFC#7 College Notre Dame Cactus on Sunday afternoon.

Dean Dalaroy

COLLEGE JEAN EUDES EAGLES 40, ROGER COMTOIS PATRIOTS 23:

At Roger Comtois, Dean Dalaroy scored two touchdowns and rushed for 182 yards on 23 carries as College Jean Eudes Eagles defeated Roger Comtois Patriots 40-23.

Francois LaRamee also tallied two majors while Julien Boudreau-Plouffe scored a touchdown in the victory.Ā  Pivot Charles-Olivier Lavigne completed 28 passes in 38 attempts for 302 yards and three passing touchdowns for the Eagles.

On defense, Michael Chiappone recorded a sack and added 10 tackles.Ā  Lambert Harvey had a sack while Maxime Barbeau ā€“Di Meo caught an interception.

As for the Patriots, Christophe Harnois-Tremblay scored two touchdowns and rushed for 270 yards on 36 carries.Ā  Alexis Gauvin also dashed into the end zone for a rushing major.

Olivier Fortin was a beast on defense for the Patriots as he amassed 12 tackles.Ā  Marc Olivier Paul Gros-Louis recorded a sack in the loss.

On Saturday afternoon, the Eagles will have a tough task as the team takes on CFC#6 Seminaire Saint-Francois Blizzard in the quarterfinals.
