PFC WEEK 6:
Week 6 of the PFC saw three lopsided scores as the Regina Thunder, Edmonton Wildcats and Saskatoon Hilltops each tasted victory.
The Game of the Week was in Winnipeg as the Rifles hosted the Regina Thunder in a battle for first place.Β Sunday afternoon the Thunder collected 525 yards of total offense and pounded the Rifles 43-20.
Quarterback Jaeden Marwick finished 26 of 40 for 415 yards and threw three touchdown passes.Β Kasim Ocaya caught four passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, while Preston Bews hauled in seven balls for 73 yards a score.Β Levi Paul also caught a major from 15 yards out.
The Thunder rushed for 112 yards, led by Colton Klassen who gained 93 yards on nine carries.
The defense also played a major role on Sunday as 14 of their 43 points came from two fumble recoveries for touchdowns.Β Brett Selinger jumped on a loose ball and rumbled 41 yards to the house, while Chris Tunnicliffe picked up a fumble and took it back 27 yards for a score.Β Tunnicliffe also had an interception, as did Taylor Garrett.Β Brandon Whitehouse collected six solo tackles to lead the unit.
With the win the Thunder (4-1) take sole possession of first place and will host the Calgary Colts (1-4) on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
The Winnipeg Rifles fall for just the second time this season, both on their home turf.
With the Rifles run game frustrated with the Thunder defense, quarterback Tyler Vieira finished 21 of 36 for 301 yards and threw a pair of TD passes.Β He connected with seven different receivers as Julian Banares caught five balls for a game high 126 yards.Β Niclas Bembenek made six receptions for 91 yards and touchdown, while Alexander Tachinski also caught a touchdown pass.
On the defensive side of the ball the Rifles forced two interceptions, both made by Jason Kelly who is now tied for the Conference lead with four.Β Both Brooks Falloon and Braedy Will had four tackles each and Brady Carter had the lone sack.
The Rifles (3-2) will play in Saskatoon against the Hilltops (3-2) in a battle for second place on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
In a battle for city bragging rights, the Edmonton Wildcats gained 688 total yards of offense, blasting the Huskies 51-18.
Quarterback Jordan Olson completed 12 of 27 passes for 346 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes.Β Both Brad Quartel and Ryan Smith each had huge games, both caught a touchdown gaining over 140 yards.Β Quartel had five catches for 145 yards while Smith hauled in three passes for 146 yards.
The ground attack was also very good for the Cats.Β David Adebayo carried a game high 23 times for 155 yards and scored three touchdowns.Β Bray Josue chipped in with six rushes for 58 yards.
Kicker Ideen Samadi was perfect 4-4 in field goals.
The Wildcats defense held the Huskies to just 85 yards on the ground led by Ryan Doram and Isaiah Hoeppner who each had four tackles.Β Jalanhi Knorren made his fourth interception of the year and Keaton Hoddinott had a pair of sacks.
Saturday night the Wildcats (3-2) will once again face the Huskies (1-4) in the Battle of Edmonton, Part 2 at 7:00pm.
The Huskies who began the season with a win have now lost four straight after gaining just 211 yards of total offense.
Quarterback Trevor Erdmann finished 11 of 23 for 126 yards and threw a pair of TD passes to Yannick LβAbbe.Β Β Β Jimmie Airey also caught two passes for 33 yards and Colton Balicki had two receptions for 23 yards.
The only points the Huskies managed in the second half was a Jonathan Heiderbrecht single.
The Huskies defense was on the field for a good portion of the game, defensive back Dillon Garry made eight solo tackles and Brandt Kolybaba had seven.Β Spencer Anger picked off a pass and both Taylor Visser and Bryce Lea recovered fumbles.
The Huskies (1-4) will get a rematch on Saturday night when they take on the Wildcats (3-2).
The Saskatoon Hilltops offense continues to fill the scoreboard with a 47-19 victory over the Calgary Colts.Β The Hilltops lead the Conference with 175 points scored.
The Hilltops seemingly scored from all angles getting points from their offense, defense and special teams.
Quarterback Jared Andreychuck finished 15 of 30 for 216 yards and threw a nine yard touchdown pass to Evan Turkington.Β Chad Braun hauled in seven passes for 103 yards.
On the ground Logan Fischer was Mr. Touchdown, scoring three times on just seven carries and 35 yards.
Not only did Braun catch seven passes, but he also returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown.
Defensively the Hilltops forced five turnovers. Dylan Larson intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a pick six.Β Cameron Schnitzler, Austin Thorarinson and James Vause also had interceptions.Β Tom Schnitzler jumped on a fumble and Dillon Buckle had the lone sack.
The Hilltops (3-2) will host the Winnipeg Rifles (3-2) on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm in a very important game.
The Calgary Colts lose for the fourth time this season despite outgaining the Hilltops with 382 yards of total offense.
Cole Meyer and Matt Fortini combined to complete 20 of 36 passes for 250 yards, but each throw two interceptions.Β Jevon Cottoy hauled in six passes for 85 yards.
On the ground, Xavier Ramsey rushed 12 times for 95 yards and had a touchdown.Β Meyer had a touchdown plunge as well.
The Colts βDβ was led by Brock Ramias with five solo tackles.Β Dylan Niedermaier, Jakub Jakoubek and Colten Burr each had four tackles.
Sunday afternoon the Colts (1-4) will travel to Regina to face the Thunder (4-1) at 1:00pm.Β Itβll be the first visit to Regina for Colts head coach Matt Blokker since last yearβs Canadian Bowl when he led the Vancouver Island Raiders of the BCFC.

BCFC WEEK 9:
Week 9 of the BCFC saw the top three teams in the Conference move closer to nailing down a playoff spot as the Okanagan Sun, Langley Rams and Kamloops Broncos all tasted victory at home.
Prior to the game, the Rams hosting the Vancouver Island Raiders appeared to be the best of the weekend, however the Rams took out the defending champs 53-14 thanks to a 28 point second quarter.
Quarterback Jordan McCarty finished 12 of 19 for 245 yards and threw four touchdown passes.Β Daniel English caught three of those passes for 76 yards and hauled in two touchdown passes.Β Malcolm Williams made five receptions plus a major, while Nathan Lund also caught a touchdown pass.
Lund was also busy on the ground, with a game high 11 carries for 55 yards and two touchdowns.Β Jordan Traversy chipped in with seven carries for 37 yards.
The Rams defense was simply outstanding.Β They created six turnovers including three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a turnover on downs.Β The βDβ was led by Marcus Brown who had a fumble recovery, an interception and three solo tackles.Β Steven Martinez intercepted a pass and returned it 19 yards for a pick six.Β English also made an interception on a Raiders fake punt.Β Β Kicker Steve Thomas also recovered a fumble.
Defensively the Rams collected four sacks.Β Adam Marchetti had one and shared one with Brock Gowanlock, while Luke Andrews and Dylan Roper each had one.
The Rams (6-2) will visit the Okanagan Sun (7-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Apple Bowl.
The Vancouver Island Raiders fall for the second straight week and fifth time this season despite 333 yards through the air.
Quarterback Liam OβBrien finished 21 of 35 for 333 yards and threw a touchdown pass Marshall Cook.Β Taylor Flavel was his main target catching seven passes for 129 yards.Β Β Alex Kutra hauled in three balls for 86 yards.
The Raiders didnβt have much success on the ground against the Rams defense collecting just 33 yards.Β Nathan Berg rushed four times and scored a touchdown.
Defensively the Raiders were led by Dylan Chapdelaine and his four solo tackles.Β Ash Gayat and Josh Paisley chipped in with three each.
The Raiders (3-5) will visit the Kamloops Broncos (6-2) on Saturday night in a game with playoff positioning on the line.
The Kamloops Broncos kept pace with the Rams after a 23-24 victory over the Westshore Rebels, guaranteeing them the first ever winning season.
The Broncos sweep the regular season series as quarterback Steve Schuweiler finished 21 of 34 for 260 yards threw a pair of touchdown passes with a well balanced attack finding eight different receivers.
Derek Yachinson hauled in six passes for 66 yards and Rudy Uhl caught five passes for 51 yards.Β Both Jesse Neufeld and Devin Csincsa made touchdown receptions.
The Broncos ground attack collected 185 yards led by Jacob Palmarin and his 11 carries for 67 yards.Β Aaron Morran rushed four times for 48 yards.
Defensively the Broncos created eight turnovers; three fumbles, two interceptions and three turnover on downs.Β Kyle Richardson had a great game with six solo tackles and the lone sack.Β Mish Bunn, Palmarin and Kurtis Mutchsmann each recovered fumble, while Colin Mather and Chris Rosa intercepted passes.
The Broncos (6-2) will host the Vancouver Island Raiders (3-5) on Saturday night at 7:00pm.
The Valley Huskers are still searching for their first win of the season despite outgaining the Broncos with 428 total offensive yards.
Quarterback Dylan LaPrairie finished 14 of 30 for 276 yards.Β His favourite target was Tyron Ledingham who caught a game high seven passes for 112 yards.Β Felix Kaanon collected 62 yards on two catches.
On the ground the Huskers gained 169 yards, led by Benedict Muhima with six carries for 75 yards and a touchdown.Β RJ Begg also scored a rushing TD.
Sharif Ali led the Huskers defense with eight solo tackles and an interception.Β Cody Parray collected six solo tackles.Β Colin Currie recovered a fumble while Raphael Olivares recorded a pair of sacks.
The Huskers (0-8) will host the Westshore Rebels (2-6) on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.
The Okanagan Sun set a new franchise high for points scored in a single game, dominating the Westshore Rebels 92-7, just two days after the death of teammate JT Fernandez that was felt across the BCFC.
In honour of Fernandez, on the first play from scrimmage the defense started with 11 players.Β The βDβ was solid again allowing just 198 yards of total offense and creating seven turnovers.Β Β They recovered four fumbles, had an interception and twice turned the ball over on downs.Β Chris Pereira recovered two of those fumbles, while Dexter Janke and Jeff Mock recovered the others.Β Beck Fullerton had the lone pick while Robbie Yochim had a team high six solo tackles.
Offensive the Sun benefitted from turnovers and a short field thanks to the defense and the return game.Β Quarterback Josiah Joseph finished a perfect seven of seven for 139 yards and three touchdowns.Β Backup Matt Calderwood was three of five for 69 yards and threw his first junior touchdown pass to Lerone Robinson, as well ran in his first career major.
Nine different receivers caught passes led by Robinson who caught two TD passes for 106 yards.Β Thomas Huber and Pierre Luc Lord also hauled in majors.
The ground game again led the offense with 267 yards.Β Alex Bradley rushed 10 times for 171 yards and a score including a 102 yard gain on the first Sun play from scrimmage.Β Dillon Fortune, Kory Nagata and Armand Bokitch also scored a touchdown with short runs.
Yochim was simply special on special teams.Β The fifth year veteran returned three punts for touchdowns including two from 47 yards and one from 87 yards.
Sunday afternoon is the biggest match-up of the season as the Sun (7-1) host the Rams (6-2) at 1:00pm with first place on the line.Β The Sun and Rams have split the season series, while the Sun are on a six game winning streak.
The Westshore Rebels struggled moving the ball on Saturday night other than their first drive. They got down to the Sun two yard line but fumbled and lost the ball.
Quarterback Hunter Lake finished 17 of 30 for 183 yards and threw an interception.Β He used his legs to score the only Rebels points with a terrific 11 yard touchdown run, leaping over a Sun defender to get into the end zone.Β He finished with 11 carries for 62 yards.
Josh Beauchamp caught a game high seven balls for 89 yards while Johnny Quan hauled in two balls for 33 yards.
Defensively the BCFC leading tacklers Chris Pastro finished with three stops and left with a leg injury in the fourth quarter. Tanner Rodinsky also had three tackles.
The Rebels (2-6) will play in Chilliwack on Saturday afternoon against the Valley Huskers (0-8) at 1:00pm.
