HAMILTON – The No. 3 McMaster have advanced to the 50th Telus Vanier Cup defeating Mount Allison 24-12 at Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton on Saturday evening.
McMaster defence highlighted the national semifinal victory tallying nine sacks against Mount Allison while pinning them four times in their end zone to collect eight points on safeties alone
This will be McMaster’s fourth trip to the Vanier Cup with their last coming in 2012. The Marauders are 1-2 in Vanier Cup games with their lone Vanier Cup win coming in 2011 against Laval.
The Marauders (10-1) will battle the Montreal Carabins (10-1) in the 50th TELUS Vanier Cup at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Kickoff for the game is set for 1 p.m., live on Sportsnet, Sportsnet 36- and Radio-Canada.
Tyler Crapigna of Nepean, Ont. kicked three field goals in the Marauders victory notching kicks from the 32, 38 and 30 yards.
Wayne Moore of Etobicoke, Ont, scored McMaster’s lone touchdown on a six-yard run in the third quarter.
The Marauders had a 10 point lead midway through the second quarter before Mount Allison got on the board when Brandon Leyh of New Westminster, B.C., found a hold in the Marauder secondary hitting Josh Blanchard of Oromocto N.B., on a 48 yard touchdown strike.
Grimsby’s Ryan Lambert hit a 23-yard field goal in the third quarter and they added a late team safety to finish their scoring at 24-12.
