London Beefeaters vs Twin City Predators

The London Beefeaters coming off of a tough battle in Windsor last week managed to earn a win at home over the Predators.  London’s Chuck Wall would score both of the touchdowns for London; while Carmine Gentile would be perfect when it came to converts… he also kicked two field goals. London’s 24-12 win over Twin Cities brings them to a 2-2 record while the Predators drop to 1-3.

Ottawa Sooners vs Burlington Braves

The Burlington Braves were on the road as they headed to Ottawa to take on the Sooners. Ottawa came out on top with a 25-16 victory over the Braves in order to join Windsor and Hamilton in the race for first place in the OFC. The Sooners took the lead in the first and managed to hold onto it throughout the rest of the game with touchdowns from Devin Paul, Carter Wilson, and Jordan Finn.

GTA Grizzlies vs AKO Fratmen

The GTA Grizzlies were heading into a tough match on Sunday afternoon as they hosted the AKO Fratmen, but they managed to put up quite the fight. Windsor came out with the win after a 52-yard field goal late in the fourth to put them up by 3 for a final score of 20-17. Sunday Afternoons game was quite the penalty filled match as almost 300 yards total were picked up from penalties. AKO gave up 212 yards while the Grizzlies just 85. The Grizzlies continue to go winless and sit at the bottom of the OFC Standings while the Fratmen move to a 3-1 record.

PFC WEEK 5:

Both teams in Saskatchewan traveled to Edmonton this past weekend and left with a victory.

The Regina Thunder used 436 yards of total offense to beat the Edmonton Wildcats 35-14 for their third win of the season.

Quarterback Jaeden Marwick completed 19 of 25 for 259 yards and threw a TD pass to Matt Frass.  Preston Bews led all receivers with five catches and 75 yards, while Kristiane Desautels hauled in three passes for 41 yards.

The ground game chewed up 201 yards with Frass gaining 76 on 14 carries.  Both Justin Banin and Colton Klassen scored touchdowns on short yardage.

The Thunder Special Teams played an important role as kicker Will McGee connected on four field goals including a 41 yarder.  He was also a perfect 3-3 in converts, totally 15 of the 35 points.

Defensively the Thunder were led by Michael Desjarlais with seven solo tackles.  Chris Tunnicliffe accounted for the lone interception and both Menedum Menegbo and Terry Giovannetti each had five tackles.

The Thunder (3-1) will now travel to face the Winnipeg Rifles (3-1) in a first place showdown on Sunday at 1:00pm.

The Edmonton Wildcats lose for the second straight week on home soil gaining 228 yards of total offense and just 70 on the ground.

Pivot Jordan Olson did finish 18 of 31 for 179 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Tristan Schultenkamper.  Brad Quartel caught a game high six passes for 69 yards.

The ground attack was limited for the Cats, but David Adebayo carried 14 times for 62 yards and scored a touchdown.

Defensive back Jalahni Knorren led the charge with 11 solo tackles.  Keaton Hoddinott made five tackles and shared a sack with Marcus Goods.  Isaiah Hoeppner collected two sacks.

Saturday night the Wildcats (2-2) will battle their city rivals the Huskies (1-3) and will look to get back in the win column at 7:00pm.

The Saskatoon Hilltops blasted the Edmonton Huskies back on Saturday night 68-17 behind 622 yards of total offense.

The Hilltops run game was unstoppable gaining 359 yards.  Wayndel Lewis spirited for 274 yards on 16 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns.

Through the air quarterback Jared Andreychick completed 15 of 28 for 260 yards and threw four touchdown passes.  Back-up quarterback Brad Schnitzler also threw a major on just two completions.

Both “Evans” caught TD pass, as Evan Turkington hauled in four passes for 63 yards and Evan Kopchynski made three receptions for 60 yards.  Chad Braun led the Hilltops with six catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Kicker Brett Thorarinsson got in the act as well connecting on four field goals, including a 46 yarder.

The Hilltops defense added some scoring as well with a 50 yard pick six from Cole Benkic.  Justin Filteau made five solo tackles and had a knockdown, while Blake Hermann had a game high two sacks.  Both Adam Benkic and Quinn Pierce jumped on fumbles.

Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm the Hilltops (2-2) will stay on the road, traveling to Calgary to face the Colts (1-3) coming off a bye.

The Edmonton Huskies lose their third straight despite gaining 330 yards of total offense.

Ten different receivers caught passes as quarterback Trevor Erdmann finished 17 of 30 for 230 yards and threw a major.  Jimmie Airey was the favourite target making a game high seven receptions, 110 yards, and the lone touchdown. He also had 11 carries for 35 yards.  Quin Forster chipped in with four catches for 60 yards.

With 36 second left in the second quarter defensive back Neil Bishop intercepted a pass and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown.   Both Bradnt Kolybaba and Branden Modin made seven solo tackles and Stephan Paleniuk had the lone sack.

Saturday night Edmonton city bragging rights will be up for grabs as the Huskies (1-3) will look to snap their three game slide and face the Wildcats (2-2) at 7:00pm.

BCFC WEEK 8:

The three BCFC games on Saturday were highlighted as the CJFL Rivalry Week (#cjflrivalry) as the Okanagan Sun, Langley Rams and Kamloops Broncos recorded wins.

In the BCFC Game of the Week, the Sun used their defense to help win their fifth straight, a 19-7 win in Nanaimo over the Vancouver Island Raiders.

The “D” held the Raiders to 86 yards on the ground and sacked quarterback Liam O’Brien seven times.  Defensive lineman Zak Ironstand tallied three sacks, while Justin Gabriel, JT Fernandez, Manu Eli and Lucas Machado had the others.  Dexter Janke made his third interception of the season, all coming in the last two games.   Machado and Gabriel both recovered a fumble and Cord Delinte led the club with six solo tackles.

Rookie quarterback Josiah Joseph made his the first start of his junior career and finished 10 of 18 for 150 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Lerone Robinson, his fourth of the season.

As in the previous two matches with the Raiders, the Sun ground game led the offense with 236 yards.  Alex Bradley rushed 15 times for 96 yards, while the BCFC rushing leader Dillon Fortune carried 10 times for 73 yards.  Kasey Russell scores his sixth major of the season, on his longest run of the year, rumbling 21 yards for the score.

The Sun (6-1) will host the Westshore Rebels (2-5) on Saturday night at the Apple Bowl at 7:00pm.

The Vancouver Island Raiders have their two game winning streak snapped, losing to the Sun for the second straight time at home.

O’Brien found success through the air, finishing 27 of 38 for 307 yards and threw the Raiders lone major to Arthur Fabbro.  Marshall Cook led all receivers with 10 catches for 131 yards while Alex Kutra hauled in five passes for 104 yards.

The Raiders defense saw some great individual efforts as Quinton Bowles set a new team record with four sacks in a single game.  Dylan Chapdelaine tied a club record with 10 assisted tackles.  Nathan Meyers and Hayden Mebs each intercepted a pass.

The Raiders (3-4) will travel to face the Langley Rams (5-2) on Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm.

The Kamloops Broncos sweep the seasonal series with the Westshore Rebels after a 24-14 victory on the Island, despite the Rebels posting 522 total offensive yards.

The Broncos used two quarterbacks as Connor Whitelaw finished 11 of 13 for 198 yards and Steve Schuweiler completed six of nine for 53 yards and threw a 13 yard touchdown pass to Brody Bernier.

The duo spread the ball around, finding eight different receivers.   Rudy Uhl caught five passes for 46 yards, Devin Csincsa hauled in two passes for 96 yards and Derek Yachison caught three balls for 41.

Whitelaw ran four times and scampered into the end zone and Sheldon Brown carried three time, one which scored a major.  Jacob Palmarin rushed a game high 13 times for 73 yards.

The Broncos secondary was busy as the Rebels made 41 pass attempts.  Kieran Muir made five solo tackles and a knockdown, while Caleb Goudie chipped in with four tackles and three special teams tackles.  Aaron Smith recovered a fumble and Adam Stangowitz recorded the lone sack.

Returner Jordan Angove tied a BCFC record for the most missed field goal returns, collecting three of them.

On Saturday the Broncos (5-2) will host the Valley Huskers (0-8) at Hillside Stadium at 7:00pm.

The Westshore Rebels turned in their best offensive game, but fell short to the Broncos.

Quarterback Hunter Lake finished 21 of 41 for 381 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Griffin Dear.  Lake also rushed 10 times for 115 yards.

Jordan Rodinsky made seven catches for 182 yards, while Josh Beauchamp hauled in eight balls for 121 yards.

On the defensive side, linebacker Chris Pastro was once again simply awesome.  The fifth year vet made seven solo tackles and assisted on six of them.  Cohan Sassamn made three sacks and Braeden Swatez recovered a fumble.

The Rebels (2-5) will play in the Okanagan on Saturday night, taking on the first place Sun (6-1) at 7:00pm.

The Langley Rams kept place with the Kamloops Broncos on Saturday night beating the Valley Huskers 46-7.

The Rams tallied 427 yards of total offense.  Eight players carried the ball, gaining 223 yards on the ground.  Nathan Lund returned to the line up and carried four times for 88 yards and scored two touchdowns.  Jordan Traversy rushed six times for 52 yards and scored a touchdown.

Rookie quarterback Jordan McCarty made the first start of his junior career finishing nine of 17 for 204 yards and threw a touchdown.  Just two receivers caught passes as Dan English hauled in five balls for 124 yards and the lone major.  Malcolm Williams made four catches for 80 yards.

The Rams Special Teams played an important role.  John Beckerleg returned a punt 69 yards for a touchdown, his sixth major of the season.    Kicker Steve Thomas was a perfect 3-3 in field goals, kicking the 31st of his career.  The marker sets a new Rams record for most field goals in a career.

Defensively the Rams were sound hold the Huskers to just 197 yards of total offense.  Steven Martinez, Dennis Olivera and Jarren Ralf each made three solo tackles.

The Rams (5-2) will host the VI Raiders (3-4) on Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm.  Each team has won at home in this three game regular season series.

The Valley Huskers are still searching for their first win of the season.

Quarterback Dylan LaPrairie finished 16 of 34 for 164 yards and threw a TD pass.  Seven different receivers caught passes led by Cody Vinish’s four catches for 60 yards, while Tyron Ledingham’s had four catches for 28 yards and the lone touchdown.

Defensively the Huskers were led by Connor Smith and his four solo tackles.  Dylan Boykowich picked off a pass.

Saturday night the Huskers (0-8) will travel to Kamloops to face the Broncos (5-2) for the third time this season.  Kick-off is set for 7:00pm at Hillside Stadium.
