RECAP: Rouge et Or crush Stingers, will make 12th appearance in Dunsmore Cup Final [stats]

Laval – The Laval Rouge et Or has secured their place in the RSEQ final for the 12thΒ consecutive year. Β The Rouge et Or earned their berth in the final after crushing the Concordia Stingers 74-18 on Saturday at the TELUS Stadium before 10,522 spectators.

Montreal won the other semifinal; therefore, the Rouge et Or will meet the Carabins on Saturday at 1:00pm for a rematch of the 2013 Dunsmore Cup Final. The match will be played at TELUS Stadium

Laval took an early 16-0 lead after a little less than four minutes had passed on the clock. They never looked back.

The Rouge et Or reached the same time the milestone of 70 consecutive victories at home, improving their CIS record.

“We have great respect for the Stingers and we absolutely did not want to humiliate them today,” said Rouge et Or Head Coach Glen Constantin. Β “Concordia is a better team than what they showed.”

“Unfortunately, they lacked the manpower. Β On our end, the guys were more receptive throughout the week. After last week’s defeat last week, they were more willing to take criticism in practice and it showed today.”

Laval took little time to begin their assault. Β  In the first quarter, Hugo Richard completed three touchdown passes to three different receivers. Benoit Gagnon-Brousseau and Tyrone Pierre scored first career majors at the university level, while Guillaume Bourassa also took advantage of an pass from Richard.

A blocked punt was returned by Vincent Desloges into the end zone, as well as two field goals and a safety by Boris Bede put Laval comfortably ahead 36-0.

Richard continued to connect with his receivers in the second period. The Laval pivot connected with Matthew Norzil and Etienne Moisan to add two more touchdowns to his record. For Moisan, it was also his first career major. Boris Bede added a field goal and Christopher Amoah crossed the goal line late in the first half. At halftime, the Rouge et or were in front 60-0.

Chris Amoah and Felix Lechasseur on passes from substitute Charles Lambert, added two touchdowns in the third quarter.

The Stingers came to life on offense with a touchdown score by Alexis Bailey on a pass from Colin Sequeira midway in the fourth. Bailey replied four minutes later on another pass from Sequeira, (33 yards). The Stingers pivot added a third passing major 75 seconds later by connecting with Jean-Christophe Benny in the end zone. Final score: 74-18.

Rookie Richard Hugo finished the game with 14 completions in 17 attempts for 228 yards. Ten players caught the ball during the game. Lechasseur was the busiest with five receptions. On the ground, Christopher Amoah carried the ball nine times for 72 yards.

On defense, veteran Vincent Desloges had another strong game as he blocked two punts and forced two fumbles in addition to making two solo tackles and two assisted, including a sack.
