RECAP: Spartiates take Bol D’Or in triple overtime; CFC 100 Normandin, Betts & Joseph have notable performances

The Vieux-Montreal Spartiates are the 2014 CEGEP Division 1 Bol D’Or Champions.

However, it did not come easy as the team needed triple overtime to defeat Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars 27-24 at Alphonse Desjardins Stadium in Sir Jean-sur-Richelieu on Saturday.

However, the Spartiates would tie up the game as CFC 100 Louis-Mathieu Normandin sneaked into the end zone for a 1 yard major.

With the game tied 17-17 at the end of regulation, it went to overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime, Joseph dashed into the end zone for a two yard touchdown to give the Cougars the early lead in the second overtime.  However, the Spartiates responded quickly as Normandin scored a five yard rushing major as the equalizer.

In the third overtime, a Spartiates drive that resulted in six plays and 33 yards culminated with Amaruso’s nine yard field goal to seal with the victory for the team.

CFC 100 Mathieu Betts was selected as the Spartiates Player of the Game as he had three solo sacks as well as an assisted sack. Moreover, Betts  racked up four solo and eight assisted tackles.  CFC 100 Joseph received the honours for the Cougars as he rushed for 117 yards on 29 carries and scored two touchdowns in the game.
