Recruiting Wrap: Five OUA schools land early commits

DB Denny Ferdinand

Denny Ferdinand committed to Carleton University on October 1, becoming the first of four players who committed to the Ravens that day.

Ferdinand is a 5’11” 170lb defensive back from Ottawa, Ontario. He last played for the West Ottawa Knights and the Ottawa Sooners. He attends high school at A.Y. Jackson Secondary School.

CFC150 REC Kaseem Ferdinand

Kaseem Ferdinand, Denny’s twin brother, also committed to Carleton on October 1.

Ferdinand is slightly smaller than his brother, measuring at 5’10” 165lbs. He plays wide receiver in Ottawa for the Knights and the Sooners as well and also attends A.Y. Jackson Secondary School.

Ferdinand also participated in the inaugural CFC Prospect Game on TSN.

RB Freud Cesar

Freud Cesar was the third commit for the Ravens program on October 1.

Cesar is a 5’11” 205lbs running back from Montreal, Quebec. Cesar played at the international level when he was on Football Canada’s roster in 2018.

DB Othman Brahm

Othman Brahm was the fourth commit for Carleton on October 1.

Brahm, a 5’11” 185lbs defensive back, plays for College Montmorency in Laval, Quebec. He has also played linebacker in certain packages.

“[Carleton is] full of competition and athletes and if you’re being coached by Coach Polo and Coach Spy you have nowhere to go but up,” says Othman on the atmosphere of the Ravens program.

CFC100 REC Layomi Ojutalayo

Layomi Ojutalayo became the first commit for the Laurier Golden Hawks and their 2021 campaign when he made his decision on September 17.

Ojutalayo is a wide receiver for the Robert F. Hall Wolfpack in Caledon, Ontario. He measures at 6’3″ 183lbs.

“The Laurier football team has a lot of ballers from the Peel region who I feel like will be able to take a Yates cup,” says Ojutalayo on one of the reasons he committed to Laurier.

“Academically, they suit me best as they have a good business program. Also, out of all the coaches who had me on their recruiting watch, Coach Faulds and Coach Galloway built a strong connection with me and will be able to take me to a new level. This is why I feel like it is the right choice.”

REC Ryan Speight

Ryan Speight became the second 2021 commitment for Laurier on October 5.

Speight ā€” a Brantford, Ontario product ā€” played receiver for St. John’s College. He is measured at 6’3″ 185lbs.

OL Tyler Potvin

Tyler Potvin is the first offensive lineman who has committed to the Golden Hawks.

Potvin plays football in Milton, Ontario for Jean Vanier Catholic High School and the AAA Burlington Stampeders. He is 6’3″ 295lbs.

REC Jake Bennett

Jake Bennett was the fourth commitment and third receiver for the Golden Hawks’ 2021 recruiting class.

Bennett is a 6’1″ 175lb receiver for the Nelson Lords in Burlington, Ontario.

“I chose Laurier for a few reasons. One is its strong academic programs. Another was my close relationship with Coach Faulds and Coach Galloway and Laurierā€™s wide receiver friendly offence,” says Bennett.

REC Tyler Lutz

Tyler Lutz is the second Nelson Lords receiver, coming right after his teammate Jake Bennett, to commit to Laurier.

Lutz also hails from Burlington and is a slightly smaller ball-catcher than Bennett, standing at 5’11” 150lbs.

“I chose Laurier because it has the best fit academically,” says Lutz on why he wanted to go to Laurier. “I feel like I have a good connection with the coaches and that they are interested in me as a person and not just a player. Another reason is that itā€™s close to home so my family can come and watch me play.”

CFC150 LB Jayden Griffiths

Jayden Griffiths is the first defensive player to commit to the Hawks.

Griffiths is a 6’0″ 195lbs linebacker for Football North in Mississauga, Ontario. He was able to crack the CFC150 this season.

DE Demarco Lawrence

Demarco Lawrence is the second defensive player to send in their commitment to play for Laurier in 2021.

Lawrence plays defensive end for Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario.

DL Jack Marsland

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues found their first commit of the 2021 recruiting class and his name is Jack Marsland.

Marsland is a 6’2″ 260lbs defensive lineman for Kelowna Secondary School in Kelowna, British Columbia.

“I chose the University of Toronto because of their excellent academic reputation and I believe that the program has great coaches and a bright future,” says Marsland.

DE James Prew

James Prew is the second commit and second defensive lineman who will join the 2021 Varsity Blues recruiting class.

Prew primarily plays defensive end for A.N. Myer in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He measures at 6’4″ 220lbs.

“I chose [University of Toronto] because of their great coaching staff and their history with the DE position,” says Prew. “Also because of the great facilities the school provides and a great location to be able to live in not to mention the academics as well.”

OL Kieran Copley

Kieran Copley is the first pass protector to commit to Toronto this year.

Copley is a 6’6″ 275lbs offensive tackle for Grande Prairie Composite High School in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

CFC150 LB Kaleb Chassie

Kaleb Chassie became the third defensive player and the first CFC150 player to commit to U of T when he made his decision on September 14.

Chassie plays linebacker at Sandwich Secondary School in Windsor, Ontario. He is 5’10” 200lbs.

CFC100 TE Jacob Wright

Jacob Wright is the second offensive player and the first CFC100 player to have committed to Toronto so far in this 2021 recruiting class.

Wright is a 6’4″ 250lbs tight end for M.M. Robinson in Burlington, Ontario.

“I chose [University of Toronto] because of the prestigious academics as well as the positive and competitive environment that the coaches and players have made as I look forward to be apart of that,” Wright explains.

REC Brett Timbeck

Brett Timbeck committed to the Waterloo Warriors on September 25 and since then, he is still the only offensive player to join the new recruiting class.

Timbeck is a 6’1″ 180lbs receiver for Oakridge Secondary School in London, Ontario.

DB Ethan Fawcett

Ethan Fawcett became the newest member of the 2021 Warriors recruiting class when he decided to take his studies to Waterloo on October 5.

Fawcett plays defensive back for Korah Collegiate in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

“Waterloo is a pipeline for Sault Ste. Marie athletes,” says Fawcett, explaining why he chose to play for the Warriors. “It has a family followed by a winning culture. Not only that but the academics and facilities are among the best.”

RB Braco Hrustemovic

Braco Hrustemovic committed to Waterloo on October 8 and is so far the only member of his 2021 recruiting class for the Warriors.

Hrustemovic plays running back for Honourable W.C. Kennedy Collegiate in Windsor, Ontario.
