BLOG: Recruit Ready – Changing ‘the Game’ on the Prairies

On cold Winnipeg mornings, aspiring football players across Winnipeg won’t be hitting the snooze button this winter. Instead they will be gearing up for early morning workouts with Recruit Ready, a young and talented coaching staff who have attracted much attention recently in the football community.

Created by a group of current and former University and Professional level players and coaches, Recruit Ready has taken a different approach to training football players in the off season. With their focus on speed, skill development and position specific training, talented young players are taking their game to a whole new level. “The atmosphere, level of competition and talent at our workouts truly brings out the best in all our athletes” according to Recruit Ready coach Blair Atkinson, former Winnipeg Blue Bomber and current Receiver Coach for the Manitoba Bison’s.

Beginning their 3^rd off-season training program this January, Recruit Ready has already contributed to the success of some of Canada’s top university football talent, including 3-time and youngest ever All-Canadian Nic Demski and True Freshman CIS leading tackler Leon Cenerini to name a few.

“Recruit Ready has helped me shape my game and made it a smoother transition from high school to university football” said Nic Demski, whom has trained with Recruit Ready since his high school days.

Recruit Ready’s ability to develop talent is also being recognized at the professional level.

“The teaching and feedback is outstanding, I have personally been on hand at many sessions and recommend it to any player who is serious about taking his game to the next level” said Bob Dyce, Special Teams Coach for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders.

Recruit Ready has also created a buzz in the football community for hosting the upcoming Midwest Showcase, a recruiting combine intended to aid players from the prairies gain exposure in front of NCAA, CIS and CJFL Coaches. In addition, Canada Football Prep and IMG Academy will also be in attendance.  “We wanted to do this combine to give young athletes the opportunity to show their skills to a variety of recruiters in hopes that they can gain scholarships or other opportunities to play the game at a higher level” said Recruit Ready coach and current Edmonton Eskimos Defensive Tackle Eddie Steele.

Recruit Ready, whose players have already participated in various programs across Canada and the United States, are hoping to create further opportunities for their athletes. “Last year, our players were enrolled at 15 different football programs, this year we want to see that number grow” said Recruit Ready coach Brad Black.
