Regina Rams commit always wanted to be a Ram

Rams add southern Saskatchewan commit to their Class of 2018.

When Nathan Raymond, an offensive lineman from Vanier Collegiate Institute, stepped out onto the field for the first time some three and a half years ago, he always dreamt of playing for the Regina Rams, and now he has made his dream a reality.

“Some of the players helped coach my first year with the (South Sask) Selects and from that experience I wanted to be a Ram,” Raymond said. “I also always wanted to stay in my home province and play university ball, so this opportunity is like a dream come true. Regina is a great school with an amazing football program.”

Raymond is from Redvers, Saskatchewan, which is near the Manitoba border. His time spent with the South Sask Selects gave him not only the chance to meet Rams players, but Rams coaches as well.

“They all do an amazing job. The coaching staff is truly outstanding,” he said. “As well, Stephen Bryce, the new head coach, has brought a new culture to the Rams and has effectively turned the team into a perennial contender.”

Raymond, who is 6’4, 310lbs, has played for a variety of teams in his short career. He spent time with the Moosomin Generals (RURAL Manitoba Football League) and the Vanier Collegiate Vikings (Moose Jaw High School Football League). He is a three-time member of Team South Sask Selects and a two-time member of Team Saskatchewan and Team Canada U18. He has also played with Team South Saskatchewan U16.

While with Team Saskatchewan at the Football Canada Cup, Raymond won two silver medals. In 2015 and 2016, he was the South Sask’s lineman of the year. He was also the Generals most outstanding lineman in 2015 and 2017. He has had two all-star nominations. This year, he was the 2017 RMFL lineman of the year. He has also been selected to the 2018 Team Canada squad that will play in Dallas, Texas, at the International Bowl.

Already decorated, Raymond knows he wouldn’t be where he is today without some help. He said, “I would like to recognize and thank my amazing parents and all my great coaches for giving me the opportunities I’ve had to help me get to this level.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
