Regina takes first game in battle of Saskatchewan

Sometime in sports a wakeup call can be just what the doctor ordered. And that is what
the Regina Thunder got on Saturday night against their provincial rivals the Saskatoon
Hilltops. After jumping out to a 7 – 0 lead the Thunder suddenly found themselves
trailing 17 – 7, a position they had not been in so far this season.

It didn’t take them long to decide they weren’t happy with the situation and quickly
rallied to tie the score 17 – 17 at the half. The offence continued to roll in the second half
scoring another 31 points and putting the game out of reach. Reid Quest finished the
night 22 of 32 for 323 yards, connecting with Jay Smith 9 times for 132 yards and 3
touchdowns. Mark Coons had another strong performance carrying the the ball 16 times
for 108 yards.

After giving up the early lead, the defence got back to what made them number one in the
PFC coming in. Lead by strong performances by Travis Junior (18 def. Points) Mark
Ingram (15) and Philmon Bairu (13), they held the Hilltops to 6 points in the second half.
The rematch is this Saturday in Saskatoon, where the Hilltops will no doubt be out for
revenge. The Thunder learned a valuable lesson, if they don`t play good football they will
get beat. They also proved that when they do, beating them will not be an easy task.
