Renaud, Labenski and Williams named Week 2 AUS Football Players of the Week

September 20, 2011 (HALIFAX, N.S.) – Acadia receiver Taylor Renaud and linebacker Tom Labenski along with StFX receiver and kick returner Damone Williams have been named the Week 2 AUS Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 18th, 2011.

Offensive Player of the Week

Receiver Taylor Renaud of the Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 18th, 2011. Renaud, a third year player from Winnipeg, MB, hauled in five receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown this past weekend in a 38-9 victory over the McGill Redmen in Wolfville, NS. Taylor, who hauled in a 58-yard strike late in the second quarter from quarterback Kyle Graves, currently leads the Atlantic conference with 213 receiving yards after two weeks of play.


Defensive Player of the Week

Acadia linebacker Tom Labenski is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 18th, 2011. Labenski, a fifth-year student-athlete from Oakville, ON, recorded 5.5 tackles, including 3.0 tackles for losses, one sack, a forced fumble and he also returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown in Saturday’s 38-9 win over the McGill Redmen. Tom, a 2008 and 2010 AUS all-star at linebacker, currently has 141.5 career tackles, ranking him second in Acadia school history behind former Axemen Steve Faoro, who recorded 200 tackles from 2002-06.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Damone Williams

Mississauga, ON

Returner Damone Williams of the StFX X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week. Williams, a first-year player from Mississauga, ON, returned a kickoff 99-yards late in the first quarter Saturday afternoon for the lone StFX touchdown in a 55-9 loss to the Concordia Stingers in Montreal. Damone, who finished with 142 yards on four kickoff returns, also caught four passes for 30 yards in the loss. Williams currently leads the Atlantic conference with 168 kickoff return yards through two games.
