OFC: Β JV Bisons mount comeback to defeat Bears

This past weekend, the Junior Varsity Brantford Bisons squared off against the Guelph Bears at Alumni Field. After a tough loss the previous week to Forest City as well as the loss of starting quarterback Matt Krason, the Bisons were faced with a tough test.

With a slow start, the Bisons went 3 and out and fell quickly behind as the Bears scored a touchdown from over eighty yards on a punt return. Afterwards, Brantford’s defense stopped the Bears offensive attack, generating 4 turnovers in the first half.Β As the battle for field position continued, both defenses held their own and the Bears forced the Bisons to concede a safety, after pinning them inside their 5-yard line.

With quarterback Michael Cooper at the helm as well as a power running game,Β the Bisons offense started to click and as a result, scored their first touchdown of the game.Β The Bears quickly responded with a field goal. Β With time winding down in the first half, the Bisons drove down the field, but fell short of the goal line as the clock ran out. Β At Β the half, the Bisons were down 12-6.

The Bisons came out in the second half with a strong defensive performanc as they continued to stifle the Bears offense. Once the Bisons running game grew stronger, the passing game followed suit.Β  This improvement led to three more Bisons touchdowns while they knocked out the Bears quarterback, leaving the opposition to struggle with moving the ball for the remainder of the game.

With a total of eight turnovers, the Bisons stout defense and return of their balanced offensive attack led the way. With a final score of 25-12, the Bisons are 2-2 and in the hunt for a playoff spot.

The Bisons now have a bye week to recuperate from early season injuries and prepare for their next opponent, the Sarnia Sturgeon.Β This will be a critical game as both teams Β are fighting for playoff positions.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
