Riders could be scary, in a good way

Darian Durant will discuss the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ outlook while in Outlook.

The 27-year-old quarterback is to visit the west-central Saskatchewan town today to interact with fans and look ahead to the 2010 CFL season. Similar excursions have taken him to Saskatoon, Yorkton and Prince Albert over the past month.

“Of course, you get a lot of Grey Cup questions, but the main thing is: Are we ready?” Durant said on Friday. “People are excited about the direction the team is going, and especially about the direction of our offence. We’ve made some key acquisitions in the off-season and that’s definitely going to help us.”

The Cup-related questions are inevitable, given the excruciating conclusion to the 2009 championship game — won 28-27 by the Montreal Alouettes when Damon Duval kicked a 33-yard field goal with time expired. Seconds earlier, Duval had been wide from 43 yards, but he received a second chance after Saskatchewan was flagged for having too many men on the field.

“The main thing people say is, ‘It was just such a great game up until the last play,'” Durant said. “The main thing it does is bring back the memories when you’re trying to let it go and trying to focus on this year and focus on what’s going on now, and it comes back up. It’s all fine. It’s expected.”
