Rotrand Sené, Anthony Coady and Boris Bédé named players of the week

Montreal, November 7, 2011 – Running back Rotrand Sené and lineback Anthony Coady of the University of Montreal Carabins and kicker Boris Bédé of the Laval University Rouge et Or, have been selected as the RSEQ university football league’s players of the week for the period ending November 6th 2011.

Highlights : For a third time this season, Montreal Carabins’ Rotrand Sene is the RSEQ University Football League’s Offensive Player of the Week. The Arts & Science student carried the ball 27 times for gains of 168 yards in his team’s 33-15 win over the Sherbrooke Vert & Or in the RSEQ semifinals. Sene also caught a nine-yard pass.

As the Bleus led 26-15 in the dying minutes of the game, the ball carrier scored a touchdown on a nine yard run to add to his team’s victory. His performance enabled his team to end a series of three losses against Sherbrooke. This marked also the Carabins’ first victory on the natural grass of the University of Sherbrooke Stadium since October 21, 2006.

Highlights : Anthony Coady of the Montreal Carabins is the Defensive Player of the Week. The defensive back provoked a pair of important turnovers in his team’s win over the Vert & Or. As the Carabins were trailing 9- 0 in the beginning of the second quarter, he recovered a fumble which led to Montreal ’s first touchdown of the match a few moments later.

As the Carabins led 16-12 in the third quarter, the Arts & Science student intercepted the ball and carried it on 34 yards. This play led to a field goal to put Montreal ahead 19-12. The Montreal native also completed six solo tackles, including one inflicting a two-yard loss.

Highlights : Laval Rouge & Or’s Boris Bede is the Special Teams Player of the Week for a second straight week and for a third time this season. The Laval kicker completed five field goals in as much attempts including three attempts over 40 yards.

The Business student also kicked a pair of converts for a total of 17 points on his team’s 33 in a RSEQ semifinal victory over the Concordia Stingers. Bede maintained an average of 36.6 yards on seven punts and 52.7 yard on three kickoffs.
