Rouge et Or bolster offensive line with 3 commits

Laval’s 2017 class grows to twelve.

The Laval Rouge et Or have had a busy recruiting season as of late and their 2017 class only continues to grow. Offensive tackle Nicholas Thibodeau and offensive lineman Jonathan Plé from Collège de Valleyfield, along with Andy Genois, an offensive lineman from Cégep Beauce-Appalaches, are the team’s most recent commits.

Nicholas Thibodeau

Committing to a school is often about striking a balance between academics and sports. It’s a safe bet that Nicholas Thibodeau agrees. “I committed to Laval because it is a really good combo between school and football. I will be studying civil engineering and the program at Laval is really good,” he said.

He added that, “My decision was based on the academics and the opportunity to be coached by really good coaches. The program just won a national championship. It tells you about the quality of the coaching staff. I’m really looking forward to being coached by Carl Brennan, the offensive line coach.”

Thibodeau will not be wasting any time and will be entering university in January. His program isn’t open in the winter semester, however, so he will be considered an “étudiant libre” or free student. He will take up his civil engineering studies in September.

The 6’3, 290lbs football player hails from Vaudreuil, Québec, which is a community south-west of Montréal. He has spent five years in high school with the Voltigeurs du Collège Bourget (RSEQ) and three years playing with Le Noir et Or du Collège de Valleyfield (RSEQ Division 2).

In 2012 and 2013, he won an interregional championship with the Voltigeurs. He won a Division 3 Bol D’Or in 2014 and was named as an all-star. In 2015 and 2016, he was recognized as a Division 2 all-star.

Jonathan Plé

Thibodeau’s teammate, Jonathan Plé, spent his high school career playing with the Broncoes d’école secondaire Baie Saint François (RSEQ). He spent four seasons in the Noir et Or with Valleyfield.

The 6’2, 285lbs right tackle said he chose Laval for the academic opportunity and the quality of coaching, especially from Coach Brennan. “I think the coaches are the best,” Plé said.

Plé is currently interested in the intervention sports program at Laval. In his career, he won two championships in 2013 and 2014. His team didn’t advance past the semi-finals in 2015. In 2016, he fell just short of the championship. In 2013, he won the Hardest Worker of the Year award.

Andy Genois

Andy Genois, who stands at 6’3, 295lbs, played Cégep ball with les Condors de Beauce-Appalaches (RSEQ Division 2). Genois toldLe Journal de Québec that he truly liked his visit to Laval and that helped confirm his choice. He added that Laval is the best program for his development and he can’t wait to begin.

In university, the product of Saint-Raymond, Québec will be studying civil engineering. Saint-Raymond is located north-west of Québec City.
