Roughriders draft O’Donnell in second round of CFL Canadian Draft


KINGSTON, Ont. (May 8, 2011) Queen’s offensive lineman Matthew O’Donnell of Kingston, Ont., was selected in the second round, 15th overall, by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Sunday’s CFL Canadian College Draft.

O’Donnell will join former Gaels stars Shomari Williams and Rob Bagg as members of the Roughriders. He becomes the 14th Queen’s player to be drafted into the league in the last 10 years.

O’Donnell is a two-time All-Canadian and was the 2010 recipient of the OUA J.P. Metras Award for the top lineman in the conference. He also was one of two CIS players to play in this year’s East-West Shrine Bowl.

St. Francis Xavier product Henoc Muamba was this year’s first overall pick as the linebacker was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
