RSEQ moves to divisions 1, 2 & 3

In an effort to better position itself within the provincial sport system, the RSEQ (RΓ©seau du sport Γ©tudiant du QuΓ©bec) unveiled a new naming structure for all of its sporting leagues effective immediately.

The RSEQ has moved away from its former letter based league names, replacing them with numerical divisions (1, 2 and 3)* as is done in many other major multi-sport organisations. It is another major step towards aligning the entire RSEQ network and is reflective of the membership’s support of the organisation’s mission and core values.

The new divisions will be used in all sports at every level including university and college leagues, high school provincial leagues as well as within each of the 14 RSEQ regional associations. The move is aimed at distinguishing RSEQ sport leagues from those of the provincial sport governing bodies which often use letters to differentiate their levels of competition.

There are three divisions in the college sector with division 1 being the highest level of competition, while the sport of women’s volleyball is the lone discipline that has two divisions in university sport.

The use of the term division 1 is not mentioned when there is only one level of competition in the college and university sectors.

There are some differences within the elementary and secondary sector, as the nomenclature reflects the organisation of the services offered by the RSEQ and its regional associations. The leagues that are administered directly by the RSEQ provincial office are classed as division 1, while the leagues managed by the regional associations are named division 2 and can include a division 3 where necessary.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
