RSEQ: Nomades no match for Cheetahs – Vanier improves to 2 and 0

QUARTERBACK HUGO RICHARD COMPLETED 14 OF 28 PASS ATTEMPTS FOR AN AMAZING 384 YARDS AND 6 TOUCHDOWN PASSES TO LEAD THE VANIER CHEETAHS AAA FOOTBALL TEAM TO A 49-3 ROUT OF THE MONTMORENCY NOMADES THIS PAST SATURDAY AT THE CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL FIELD.

The Cheetahs opened the scoring at the 4:37 mark of the first quarter as Hugo Richard connected with Alvan Julien on a 16-yard touchdown pass and kicker Josh MacDuffie booted his first of 7 converts on the day.

Vanier then blew the game open in the second frame as Richard teamed up with Joel Brtka on a 67-yard touchdown pass just 21 seconds in and on an exciting 90-yard touchdown bomb at 10:11. Richard then found a new target in Akeem Hoyte-Charles as they joined forces for a 36-yard touchdown pass to give the home team an insurmountable 28-3 halftime lead.

Adam Bailey scored the lone major in the third quarter, pulling in a 15-yard toss from Richard. Alexandre Savard tallied the Cheetahs’ sixth major score of the game in the fourth frame on a short 1-yard pass from Richard and Bryce Viera rounded out the scoring as he crossed the goal-line on a 10-yard dash with only 45 seconds to play in the game.

Offensively, the Cheetahs were lead by Joel Brtka, who was quarterback Richard’s favorite target as he hauled in 5 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Alexandre Savard also had a strong game with three receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown while Bryce Viera rushed for 89 yards on 13 carries in the win.

Jean-Gabriel Poulin anchored the Cheetahs’ defence once again with 9 tackles and Eric Gracioppo was credited with 7 tackles as Vanier limited their guests to a lone second quarter field goal.

The Cheetahs put their early season winning streak on the line this coming Saturday, September 3rd, when they travel to Stade CEPSUM to take on another undefeated team, their arch-rival Vieux-Montréal Spartiates. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
