RSEQ: Notre Dame Cactus dominate awards at Juvenile banquet (high school)

The RSEQ (RΓ©seau du sport Γ©tudiant du QuΓ©bec) honoured its best juvenile players, coaches and teams at its annual banquet. The Notre Dame Cactus, CFC #2 in 2011, came out the big winners of the evening. Expect to see many of these names playing for Team Quebec at this summers Football Canada Cup.

Division 1


Matthew Betts (Montreal, Que.) won the title of player of the year. The defensive lineman managed twelve sacks in nine regular season games. He also made 21 solo tackles, 26 tackles and six for a loss. Finally, Matthew managed an interception, recovered a fumble and scored two touchdowns.

Under a tie, two student athletes received the honor of the offensive player. Receiver Louis-Mathieu Normandin (Montreal Que.) of the Cactus and Brad Laplante (Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Que.) of the Blizzard of Séminaire Saint-François are the winners. Louis-Mathieu had 37 catches for 898 yards gains in addition to seven touchdowns. As for Brad, he has amassed an impressive total of 1489 yards in 196 carries and ran the ball into the end zone 18 times.


William Levesque (Quebec, Que.) Eagles High School St. John Eudes was voted defensive player. The Linebacker managed 29 solos tackles and three sacks. William also made good on 7.5 tackles for loss, one interception and recovered two fumbles.

The rookie of the year went to Janelle Francis (Montreal, Que.). The Cactus defensive back for Notre Dame had six interceptions during the 2011 season. He also made 16 solo tackles and 21 assisted tackles.

Finally, Fraser Baikie (Montreal, Que.) Cactus Notre Dame won the title of lineman of the year.
