RSEQ: Simon Charbonneau-Campeau, Max Caron and Pierre-Paul GΓ©linas named players of the week

Receiver Simon Charbonneau-Campeau of the University of Sherbrooke Vert & Or, linebacker Max Caron of the Concordia Stingers and kicker Pierre-Paul GΓ©linas of the University of Montreal Carabins have been selected as the RSEQ university football league’s players of the week for the period ending September 25th, 2011.

Highlights : Simon Charbonneau-Campeau hauled in 10 catches for 133-yards and a trio of touchdowns including the game-winner in the dying seconds of the contest as the Sherbrooke Vert & Or’s came-from-behind to top the Concordia Stingers 33-26 Friday night in Montreal. The St-Jean-sur-Richelieu scored two of his majors in the final 15-minutes of the contest beginning with a 22-yard strike from JΓ©rΓ©mie Doyon-Roch just over four minutes into the fourth quarter. The duo hooked up again with just 28-seconds remaining in regulation time on a three-yard score to give the Vert & Or its third win of the season.

Highlights : For the second consecutive week, Max Caron of the Concordia Stinger is the most outstanding defensive player in the RSEQ by recording a season high 14.5 total tackles in his team’s loss to the Sherbrooke Vert & Or. He also returned a 64-yard for a touchdown. The 13 solo and three assist performance was the fourth best in RSEQ university football history and just 2.5 behind the benchmark set by former McGill star Jean-Philippe Darche. The Kingston, Ontario native leads the nation in with 43 tackles after four games.

Highlights : Pierre-Paul GΓ©linas is the RSEQ university football league special teams player of the week. Making his first start of the season as place kicker, GΓ©linas went four-for-four in field goals and booted five punts for 220-yards as his Montreal Carabins topped the Bishop’s Gaiters 36-22 at Coulter Field. GΓ©linas’ performance moved him into sixth place in the all-time RSEQ scoring surpassing former Gaiter kicker Greg Hiscox (1990-93) with 246 points. With his four field goals, the law student overtook Jamie Galloway of Queen’s for fifth in career field goals with 51. He needs 18 in the final five weeks of the campaign to catch all-time leader Chrisopher Milo.
