SΓ©bastien LΓ©vesque, Abel Boucher and Alexander Fox named RSEQ players of the week

Montreal, October 24, 2011– SΓ©bastien LΓ©vesque and Abel Boucher of the Laval University Rouge et Or and Alexander Fox of the Bishop’s Gaiters have been selected as the RSEQ university football league’s players of the week for the period ending October 23, 2011.

Highlights : For a second time this season, SΓ©bastien LΓ©vesque of the Laval Rouge & Or is the RSEQ offensive player of the week. The ball carrier offered a sparkling performance in his team’s 40-10 victory over the Sherbrooke Vert & Or, scoring a pair of touchdowns, including a spectacular 88-yard run to put his team ahead 19-0 with 3:35 to go in the opening half. The Brossard , Que. native scored his second touchdown on an 18-yard scamper in the third quarter. LΓ©vesque completed the game with 14 carries for 184 yards andadded 18 yards on a pair of pass receptions. He efforts contributed to the Rouge & Or’s 49th consecutive home victory while clinching the RSEQ regular season championship.

Highlights: Abel Boucher of the Laval Rouge et Or is the RSEQ defensive player of the week. The second year defensive back intercepted Sherbrooke quarterback Jeremie Doyon-Roch twice in the contest. His first pick came in the second quarter when Abel hauled in the pass at the Sherbrooke 46-yard line and ran it back 14 yards . The Rouge & Or kicked a field goal on the following ensuing drive to go up 12- 0 in the game. Abel recorded his second interception in the final quarter. The Quebec City native finished the game with three solo tackles.

Highlights: The RSEQ special team’s player of the week is Alexander Fox of the Bishop’s Gaiters. Alexander was highly efficient on kick returns in his team’s 21-18 win over the McGill Redmen. The Social Sciences student picked up 134 yards on eight punt returns and 48 yards on a pair of kickoffs. While the Redmen led 11-0 at the beginning of the third quarter, Alexander returned a punt to the Gaiters 34-yard line setting up Jordan Heather’s 76-yard touchdown strike to Quincy Van De Cruize to put his team on the board. In the fourth quarter, Alexander also participated in Bishop’s game-winning drive. In the final minute of the contest and facing second and ten at the Redmen 32, Abel hauled in a Jordan Heather pass at the McGill 15-yard line to prolong the possession that resulted in the go-ahead major two plays later. Overall, the 22-year old slot back caught seven passes for 84 yards, including a 41-yard bomb to help keep his team’s playoff hopes alive.
