Sabercats hold off Warriors in Varsity OVFL action

Sault Ste Marie Sabercats came out on fire against the Mississauga Warriors and managed to hold off a late rally by the Warriors in Ontario Varsity Football League ‘Varsity’ action Saturday in Mississauga. The Warriors had no answers for the spread attack of the Sabercats who scored early and often posting a 28 to 0 halftime lead.

The Sabercats opened the scoring with a touchdown reception by #25 Trevor Plumley on a throw from QB #13 Mike Campbell. The 2 point convert was converted by #81 Jesse Hill. The next 2 touchdowns were not successfully converted after QB Campbell scampered across the Warrior goal line both times. The final touchdown of the half was scored by #28 Bryan Babic.

The second half opened the same way as the the end of the first half with Babic scoring on a rushing TD. It took the Warrior defense to open up the scoring as #10 Lester Ross picked up a Sabercat fumble and returned it for a Warrior TD…convert by Daniel Ferraro. The Sabercats responded with their final touchdown of the game by #22 Runningback James Castellani. The final 3 Warrior TDs were scored by #8 Daniel Skube, #85 Anthony Covacevic and #32 Tevin Roberts. Ferraro converted on two of those TDs. Final score 42 to 27 Sabercats.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
