Saskatchewan football community in mourning

The Saskatchewan football community is in mourning.

Three teenage players from Carrot River died at the scene of a collision involving four cars in Melfort. The accident occurred in a construction zone on Sunday at 4:20pm on Highway 6, five kilometres close to the Spalding region.

The three casualties were ages 14, 15 and 17 and very popular in their community.  Carrot River’s population is approximately 1,000 people.

At this point, no funeral or memorial arrangements have been made to allow the families and community time to grieve this tragic loss.

Counsellors were on standby for students in the Northern Saskatchewan.  All three boys attended Carrot River Junior & Senior High School.  A makeshift memorial has been set up on the school’s football field.

Currently, the Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating the collision and no charges have been laid as of yet. Football Saskatchewan expressed their sympathy on twitter yesterday afternoon.

CanadaFootballChat.com extends our condolences to the families and community during this difficult time.
