Saskatoon receiver to play for CIS home team.

John Trumpy wants to begin his CIS career at home.

The 5’11, 185 pound receiver from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan will be literally playing in his own backyard. Recently, he committed to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies for the 2014 CWUAA season.

“Playing in my hometown in front of family and friends is something that I cherished while playing for the Hilltops,” expressed Trumpy.  “Having the opportunity to continue to do that as well as finish a degree at the school that I am comfortable with made it a fairly easy decision.”

Moreover, the offensive standout was impressed by the strength and reputation of the football program and is looking forward to being part of the Huskies family.

“The receiving corps with the Huskies is deep, but fairly young, so I felt that a proven veteran presence would be a welcomed addition and that I would be given a fair shot to compete for a starting position,” explained Trumpy.  “The Huskie program is second to none in terms of professionalism, and has a consistent track record of winning seasons which makes it a very desirable program to play for.”

Trumpy comes the Huskies after completing a stint with the Saskatoon Hilltops of the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).  During his time there, the Hilltops won three Canadian Bowl Championships.

This past season, he had 183 receiving yards on eight catches (an average of 22.88 yards per catch) and scored two touchdowns in three games.  The receiver’s season was prematurely cut short as he broke his radius in a game against rivals Regina Thunder.

Previous to the Hilltops, Trumpy played for his high school team, Holy Cross Crusaders of the Saskatoon Secondary School Athletic Directorate (SSSAD).
