Saturley, Leger and shocker, Jahmeek Taylor named Week 7 AUS Football Players of the Week

October 26, 2010 (HALIFAX, N.S.) – Defensive end Adrian Saturley of the Acadia Axemen, along with Saint Mary’s running back Craig Leger and kick returner Jahmeek Taylor have been selected as the Atlantic University Sport Football Players of the Week for the period ending October 14th, 2010.

Salmon River, NS

Running back Craig Leger of the CIS No. 9 ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 24th, 2010. Leger, a fourth year student from Salmon River, NS, rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries to lead the Huskies to their fourth consecutive victory this past weekend in a 43-7 triumph over the Mount Allison Mounties. Leger was named a 2009 AUS all-star at running back and was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the 2009 Loney Bowl. Craig, who had an eight-yard reception in the win, also participated in the 2010 CIS East West Bowl this past spring at McMaster University. Leger currently leads the AUS in rushing with 87 carries and 555 yards seven games this season.

Acadia defensive lineman Adrian Saturley is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 24th, 2010. Saturley, a fifth year student-athlete from Terence Bay, NS, registered 7.5 tackles, including a career-high three sacks for eight yards in losses, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery a 34-0 win over the StFX X-Men. Saturley, a 2009 AUS all-star at defensive end, currently leads the CIS with 9.5 sacks and three forced fumbles with one game remaining in the regular season. Adrian has recorded at least a half sack in all seven games this year and he also leads the Atlantic conference with 11.0 tackles for a loss. With his 9.5 sacks this season, he is the new AUS career leader in sacks with 21.0 in his five years at Acadia, passing former Acadia star Kyle Markin’s career total of 17.5. The AUS record for sacks in a single season is 11.0, established by former Axemen Karim Grant in 2001.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Jahmeek Taylor

For the third time this season, Saint Mary’s receiver and kick returner Jahmeek Taylor has been named the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week. Taylor, a third year player from Mississauga, ON, had another outstanding game this past weekend as the Huskies won their fourth game in a row to improve to 4-3 with a 43-7 win over the Mount Allison Mounties in Halifax. Taylor, the 2008 AUS Rookie of the Year, returned 8 punts for 153 yards in the victory. Jahmeek also caught two passes for 50 yards and added 60 yards rushing on six carries to give him 263 all-purpose yards total for the day. Taylor, named the CIS special teams player of the week twice already this season, currently leads the Atlantic conference in punt return yards (714) and all-purpose yards (1,329). The AUS single-season record for punt return yardage is 777, set by StFX’s Richard Karikari in 2002.
