SDSSAA SENIOR FOOTBALL HONOURS TOP PERFORMERS

The Sudbury District Secondary Schools’ Athletic Association boys football sport committee announced the winners of its awards selection process following the local playoffs.

Major award winners, followed by first and second team all-star selections, were as follows:

graeme-stevens

Forster most outstanding player: Graeme Stevens – Lo-Ellen Park SS

Graeme Stevens is the recipient of a SDSSAA Football major award for the third straight year. The past two years saw him earn Defensive Player of the Year honors and this year he is the recipient of the most prestigious award of them all, the Sid Forster Most Outstanding Player in the city. Simply stated, Graeme is a football player. This season for Lo-Ellen Park, the only time Graeme came off the field during a game was for a kick-off. He anchored the defense as an all- star line backer, was the long snapper and was an all- star at running back as well. Once the City Finals were done, he was back in the weight room getting ready for the next step of his career as a CIS player. Graeme epitomizes what all high school coaches hope for in an athlete. We look forward to seeing what happens at university over the next 5 years.

kyler-showell

Most valuable player of the year: Kyler Showell – Lockerby Composite

Kyler Showell exemplifies what it means to be both a great player and teammate. He consistently works hard in practice as well as makes big plays on both sides of the ball. He anchors the middle of our defense in the most unselfish way. He sinks double teams and dominates the line of scrimmage. Offensively, he is an unstoppable force. He is always driving his man back and opening large holes. Kyler Showell is an excellent choice for this year’s MVP.

bankamina-ngalamulume

Bartolucci offensive player of the year: Bankamina N’Galamulume – St. Charles College

As a running back, Bankamina scored touchdowns in each one of the team’s games while also being almost perfect on extra points and field goals to help lead the league’s top scoring offense. Combining speed, agility and power he required multiple defenders to be brought down while also frequently breaking away for long runs. As the team’s top ball carrier he could be counted on at any moment of the game and despite opposing defenders often getting worn down he always continued to run hard.

Curtis Theobald

Ricker defensive player of the year: Curtis Theobald – Confederation SS

The Middle Linebacker was sensational for Confed’s defense, leading the team in tackles, and manufacturing a sense of uneasiness for opposing offenses. As a defender Curtis has the smarts, speed, strength, and aggressiveness to continue to be a dominant football player for years to come. Curtis was an outstanding Special Teams Player as well, blocking punts and delivering fantastic blocks for our punt returners. Curtis also played on the offensive side of the ball, doing a great job as a first year Running Back. Curtis’s hard work and passion for the game is second to none, which reflected on the successful season Confederation had this year.

Zacharie Corcoran

Derks lineman of the year: Zacharie Corcoran – St. Benedict CSS

Zach has been playing football at St-Bens for four years and is type of player that every coach dreams of having on their roster. He has a natural ability to help an offence get a spark or glimmer of hope even when the chips are down. He brings to the practice field the same intense work ethic as he does during games a quality that is instrumental in helping his school win. Zach is a very cerebral player that can see where and who to attack in certain situations during a game. He is the O-line version of a quarterback, the O-line general. He also plays special team long snapper and defensive tackle. When called upon he is always ready to do what it takes to help his Bears win.
