Zach started playing the game when he was eight years old.  Since then, he has suited up for both the Essex Ravens of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Holy Names Fighting Knights of the Windsor and Essex County Athletic Association (WECSSAA).

He has been named both Fighting Knights MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.   However, his favourite moment last season was “making it to the Championship.”

The Fighting Knights standout trains hard so he can succeed on the field.

“Offseason and during the season, I have a personal strength coach, Ryan Carlone and he has really helped me excel in all ways on the football field,” says Zach.  “During the offseason, I run track and field, and play 7 on 7 football.”

“I plan to continue working really hard in practice and in the gym.”

Family plays an important part in Zach’s life.

“The most influential people in my life are my Mom and Dad.” says the Fighting Knights two way player, who has been on his school’s Honour Roll for the past two years.  “They both are guiding me in the right path in life and I don’t know where I’d be without them.”

“In football, my most influential is my brother, Rob Herzog. He pushes me to want to be better than him, and sets a good example for myself.”

While Zach has not committed anywhere yet, he is hoping to take in some official visits with CIS schools in the future. Also, he will be looking to see if any options open up south of the border.

“The recruitment process has involved me talking to multiple CIS schools but my options are still open,” says Zach. “Hopefully, I will visit a few CIS schools I become interested in and hopefully can attract some NCAA interest.”
