Seizing opportunity

Wellandport lineman joins AUS Conference Champions’ 2014 class.

Owen Huisman will be moving from one small city to another one in the coming months.

The 6’4, 230 pound defensive end from Wellandport, Ontario has signed with the Mount Allison Mounties for the 2014 AUS season.

β€œI committed to Mount Allison because they offered me an opportunity to play football while attending one of the top universities in Canada,” explained the Ontario defensive end of his decision.Β  β€œThey have a great football program which is on the rise and I look forward to being a part of it.”

β€œIt’s a natural fit for me because I come from a very small town and a close-knit community.”

Recently, Huisman played for South Lincoln Bears of the Niagara Region High School Athletic Association (NRHSAA).Β  This past season, the defensive end registered over 30 tackles, recorded 6.5 sacks, a sack fumble, and caught an interception.

In addition to the Bears, Huisman has also suited up for the Niagara Storm of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) and the Niagara Spears of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).
