SENÉ, GASCON-NADON AND MAVEETY NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Running back Rotrand SenΓ© of University of Montreal Carabins, defensive line Arnaud Gascon-Nadon of the Laval University Rouge et Or and kicker Josh Maveety of the Bishop’s Gaiters, have been selected as the Quebec University Football League’s (QUFL) players of the week for the period ending September 26.

Highlights : For the third consecutive week, Montreal Carabins running back Rotrand SenΓ© is given the nod as the top offensive player in the QUFL. SenΓ© was the driving force in Les Bleus’ 24-11 win over the McGill Redmen last Friday night, rushing for 202 yards on 22 carries and the game winning touchdown early in the fourth quarter. It was Sené’s second straight 200-yard rushing game, averaging 9.2 yards per touch as the Carabins improved to 4-0. The CΓ©gep de Vieux-MontrΓ©al graduate has racked up an impressive 708 yards in four games this year. His 176.8 yards per game average is tops in the CIS this season.

Highlights : Laval lineman Arnaud Gascon-Nadon is the QUFL defensive player of the week. The Montreal native picked up three solo tackles to go along with a pair of assists and two quarterback sacks in the Rouge et Or’s 23-7 win over Sherbrooke on Sunday. Gascon-Nadon was in the face of Vert & Or pivot Jean-Philippe Shoiry most of the afternoon, forcing the veteran quarterback to hurry his throws, thus disrupting the rhythm of the Sherbrooke offence as the team from Estrie was held to just seven points on the game.

Highlights : Bishop’s kicker Josh Maveety is the QUFL special teams player of the week for his 12-point performance in an 18-17 come-from-behind Gaiters win over the Concordia Stingers. The fourth-year kicker from Kingston, Ont. booted a trio of field goals (15, 19, 22) including the game-winner from 22-yards out with just 24-seconds remaining in the game to cap a 11-point rally in the final three minutes of the contest. He also added a critical pair of singles including a rouge off of an 85-yard kickoff with 2:43 that cut Concordia’s lead to 17-15. Maveety also finished the afternoon with an average of 63 yards on three kickoffs. He is the leading scorer in the CIS with 53 points, an average of 13.2 per game.
